    Pilot saves woman from cliff drop
    A pilot of the Great North Air Ambulance has been praised for what has been described by paramedics as one of the most dramatic rescues ever witnessed in the Lake District.

    Patterdale and Penrith Mountain rescue teams were called after a walker fell on Striding Edge on Helvellyn.

    In a rare and accurate manoeuvre, the Air Ambulance managed to land on the ridge and collect the casualty.

    The 62-year-old female walker who fell from the narrow path was taken to hospital in Carlisle and released after treatment to her injuries.

    I can't believe he even found a flat spot on striding edge to put it down.

    This rescue off Crib Goch is also spectacular rescue flying in strong winds

    Possibly a more spectacular event for all those walkers/climbers underneath the helicopter hanging on to the ridge for dear life.
