New Shocks for a 40mm drop?

Im considering lowering my 00 Astra Mk4 3dr Hatch and am just wondering would i be wiser buying uprated shocks while im at it?

The drop is for cosmetic reasons purely, not for any sort of racing (hard to do with only 90hp :p).

Also, with the state of Irish roads will it absolutely nacker the ride quality?
In saying that I have 215/40/17 on at the moment which did make it slighly harder.

    Any help much appreciated!

lowering springs should do the job without changing the shocks

EDIT: not sure if you'd get 40mm with lowering springs?

    hi! thanks for replying.

The only reason im thinking of going for the shocks aswell is that the car has original shocks and im not sure how healthy they are at the moment (alot of creaking over speed bumps) and would probably get it all done at once rather than them giving up in a few months.

Also, do you think i would have problems with multi storey car parks? or is it just a case of avoiding them?

    thanks again!

I really don't see the point of lowering a car for cosmetic purposes, it will put more stress on your shocks (not a huge amount though) it will make the ride a lot harder, you'll have to absolutely crawl over speed bumps, you can easily knock your bumper off if you're not careful

Possibly, My integra is completely standard and I have trouble with multi story car parks, can manage them but have to drive very slowly down the ramps.

If you want new shocks then its completely up to yourself really, they will have a harsher ride but you could go all out and get adjustable ones.

But you have to ask is it really worth it

For astras anything over 50mm you really should upgrade the shocks too. I myself would upgrade the shocks at 40mm just to be safe and to ensure that the shocks matched the springs.

Is it a knocking sound from the front going over ramps that you mentioined? If it is, then its the droplinks on the front. Cheap enough fix

Hi fil, this is Ste-Astra from AOC :p hehe

yeah the drivers side droplink is already on its way out but when goin over ramps the whole suspension system creaks, i think its the shocks and it only happens when its cold ;)

thanks for the info Fil :D

Ah right. I don't log on there much anymore, wouldn't have even recognised the username! Looked at you project thread on AOC there, the car is coming along well!

    PM on the way ;)

I'd keep the original shocks, although I'd say the 17's are giving them a hard time!
