    Hi all,

I have a 3 door 99 Polo 1.0 Petrol that I want to either sell or scrap, based in Cork. I've been offered some money for scrap (50 Euro) but not a lot. Car is driving perfectly - details is that it has about 140K miles on it, NCT gone this month, tax gone this month, 4 practically gone tires. Passenger door opens ok from inside and outside but jusy can't lock with key (that lock is gone).

Therefore to sell i'd need to change the 4 tires (160 Euro), tax(48 euro for 3 months), NCT (50 Euro)and then possibly get some work done to get through NCT - so could be looking at the bones of a couple of hundred Euro at least - is it worth it in the end, what sort of sale price would I get?

What do people think? Anyone interested in putting an offer smile.gif

I'd throw it up on www.adverts.ie or www.donedeal.ie and if you get anything more than the €50 offered for scrap its a bonus. Either that or break it yourself and sell the parts seperately.

Even for someone for spares it'd have to be worth €200 or
    €300 at least.

Thats along the lines i'd be thinking, I def wouldnt do any work to it, leave it as is, and try sell as mentioned by Muckie

    Thanks all,

Just stuck it on www.adverts.ie, offered E250, try and get up to E300 and will sell from there. Great little site to sell things on, far better than your buyandsell!!

FYI Imported a 04 Toyota High spec Diesel 2.0 Avensis 45K miles from Northern Ireland a few months ago so reason that I am selling - all in, including VRT was 8,500 Euro.

If you sold the car as scrap to a person do you need to go through the transfer of ownership with the vehicle cert?
I'd be afraid that they machine would be back on the road with you still showing as the registered owner of it

Definitely put it up on adverts and the likes, i'd say there's more of a market for those kind of cheap run abouts now, than ever before. You'd get a couple of hundred at least.

Also definitely make sure that you get the car out of your name when you sell it, op.

Never accept that the buyer sends the change of ownership form, do it yourself.

And my banger was sold trough gumtree.ie, I had not much luck in adverts.

Sold @ 280 Euro, thanks for all the help. Making the deal this evening.

He'll be buying it so will be transferring with the vehicle licensing certificate and handing him the vehicle registration certificate (needs for pre 2004 cars).

Anything else I should be wary of or point him to?

You don't hand the buyer the Vehicle Registration Cert. You both fill out and sign the change of ownership section on the document. You then post it off to the DOE in Shannon (let the buyer see you put it in the post so that you are not responsible for it after that). About 2 to 3 weeks later the buyer will receive a new Vehicle Registration Cert with them as the new owner

Thats what I would be thinking, strip the car of its useful working parts, headlights, lights, seats, airbags (if it has any) etc and throw them on ebay for a few quid. Car Mechanics had an article about this recently breaking a car for parts was worth more than the car its self.

    Hi Bazz26,

Thanks for reply, but I think you're wrong, or more to the point, I got that info from www.citizensinformation.ie . Link is http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/travel-and-recreation/motoring-1/buying-or-selling-a-vehicle/change_of_ownership

In there it says for 'Selling a vehicle registered on or after 1 January 1993'

"If you sell your vehicle privately, part B of the Vehicle Licensing Certificate, (Vehicle Registration Certificate for post-April 2004 vehicles) which you would have received when you bought the vehicle, should be completed and returned to the Vehicle Registration Unit of the Department of Transport. The new details will be registered and the certificate will be sent to the new owner. The Vehicle Registration Certificate, which you also get when you buy a pre-April 2004 vehicle, should be given to the new owner at the time of the sale."

I have 2 documents, an original vehicle registration certificate and a Vehicle Licensing certificate as my car is pre 2004. The vehicle licensing vertificate has my name and details on it, and i'm going to fill that in, change of ownership, and send to Shannon. But the vehicle registration does not have my details on it, only the car's, and I was going to hand direct to the buyer per the info from citizensinformation site.

    So, I believe thats right??!
