Recommend me a Safety Razor

Starting a grad job next two weeks or so and don't think shaving everyday with a Fusion blade is going to do the trick for me. I've got incredibly thick facial hair that grows really, really quickly. If anybody has thick, fast hair growth I'd love to hear you opinions/recommendations.

    Some other points to note:
    • I've got large hands
    • Currently undergoing laser surgery once every 4-6 weeks to reduce or clear the hair around the adams apple and neck area.
Could someone also explain the differences between blade types, is there one that would allow me to shave everyday comfort free.

What else should I look to get? I currently use the Real Shaving Co. shaving cream and after shave care.

Is a badger brush entirely necessary if I'm just going to be shaving short, thick stubble everyday?

I've heard of some type of clay bar that stops you from bleeding if you nick yourself shaving, what's the exact name of the product?

I'd use the search function but it's down at the moment! Thanks for all the responses, to make it easier I broke everything into paragraphs to save people multi quoting an answer!

Edit: The Merkur Progress Long Handle looks like a nice piece of kit!

The Progress is always a great starting point and I don't think many would disagree with that. However if you have a very thick beard I would look into getting an open comb razor such as the Muhle R41 which features a Merkur open comb head. Open combs do require a little more care. If I were to choose between them I would still go for a progress. Good luck in the search anyway..

I've gone through a dozen saftey razors over the past 12 months and my favourite is my last purchase, a Merkur Futur. Its adjustable which allows you to shave as aggressive as your skin can take and the engineering is perfect, the blade sits perfectly. I've bought nearly all the Merkur safety razors, Merkur Vision 2000, Merkur Slant, Merkur 12C, Merkur Progress and the Futur is my favourite.
