    hi
Finished a ordinary degree last year in a institute of technology. During the final year of my degree we were told that are degree was not accredited and so we had to do extra exams for it be acredited.

I passed my final exams and graduated. Finally in december of last year it was acredited but we were told we would have to do a top up course. We were all happy enough with the out come but i received a letter today expalining the course content. 16 weeks work placement, 7 exams , the final exam the pass grade being 80%.

I am completly disatisfied with the out come. Any ideas on what to do ? I just found a job in my chosen profession and do not want to laeve due to the course obligations.

    Thanks

It's not necessarily the right thing for you to do but if I were in your situation I'd stick with the job... You could probably go back and do the top up course at another point but if you have a job you want now I'd stay with that.

heres the catch 22, i legally shouldnt be doing my job without this course but i might need to as the letter does not say if i ahve to do placement with one thing or serveral things without giving to much away

There is a good chance your new job could be used to satisfy the
    16 weeks work placement
    criteria.

You could study for the 7 exams in your spare time. You have probably covered most of the material in your original degree.

Your new employer probably picked you for many reasons (personality, enthusiasm, intelligence ,apperance etc). It will probably look very good in his/her eyes you taking such interest in getting your qualification sorted out.

I think I'd stay with the job if I was you and try to work out a way to satisfy the conditions laid down by the college without leaving the job. I could be talking total bullsh!t here but after a while your work experience becomes much more important than what you did in college.

It might be worth clarifying what the college means by the 16 weeks work placement. Would the job that you're doing now count? I don't know the details of what's happened re. the accreditation of your course but it sounds to me like it's the college that stuffed up and they should be more than willing to show some flexibility. As for the exams - can you study at night or take some leave from work so that you can pass them?

You absolutely SHOULD NOT fake it. If you shuodl not legally be doing the job without the qualification then don't fake it. If you get caught out you could get fired and you could be ruining a burgeoning career.

I think you should speak with your new boss and explain the situation to them. They may well let you do the work placement with them (althou I suppose that might mean at a lower rate. But just make sure the boss knows the college pulled this one over on you and you weren't hiding it from you. Show your boss the letter you received.

It does sound like the college stuffed up. Ultimately, if there's a problem with the job you might have a legal case against the college. You took the job in good faith and thru the messing around the college are requiring you to do an extra 16 weeks that you weren't previously told about in order to qualify for the job

    Hi OP,

Did you spend 4 years studying for a degree and pay money for it?? It must be very frustrating to give your time to something where the merit is not defined?

Can you speak to your current boss and explain what has happened, the last thing you need again is an unsure future, and if he is not happy to keep you on because you are not fully qualified, it is better to know now.

what have the others in your class who did the degree decided to do?
