imput / output of calories

    Trying to lose weight -3st 5lbs lost in 21wks so doing pretty well :) but Ive no idea how many cals I should take in a day? I exercise for 1 hour daily either a walk & swim. both at a good pace & do be sweating/out of breath or cycle & swim. I try watch what I eat & am pretty active.

    Any ideas?

    There is no formula which will tell you exactly. If you are losing weight at a rate that suits you, you are eating the right number of calories.

    In general, the only way to be sure of your maintenance calories is to spend a couple of ordinary weeks (weeks where you don't change weight) recording every single thing that goes in your mouth. Average it out, and you have your maintenance calories, exactly tailored to your lifestyle and exercise.

    Otherwise, at best, those calculators can only provide a starting point which you have to modify. I've had calculators tell me I should be eating 4000 cals a day. Believe me, that's so far out, it's science fiction.
