can anyone tell me if having a test at 2.55 on a friday is a bad time (in finglas) i am worried about it because the school runs, i don't know what time the kids finish school, maybe 2.30? i am a very nervous driver, instructor says i am fine with my driving, it is pure lack of belief in my driving, hence i am going for the test as i keep putting them off... i don't know finglas area at all, apart from clearwater shopping centre, i have never driven further into finglas. can anyone give me advice, have read on forums here that there are a lot of speed bumps and roundabouts, i dread roundabouts, is it ok to stay in third gear an slow down to go over speed bumps? this is what i do on other bumps, yet other people are saying second gear. if they are close together, that would mean i am going over in second, speed up, go to third, brake..back to second.. sorry for the ramble! main issue is, is 2.55 very busy in finglas, should i change for a different time

It will be busy in Finglas on Friday, but it's likely that your tester will avoid the very busy areas as much as possible, because he won't want to be sitting in traffic and be late for the next test. So you'll probably be in a lot of housing estates for most of the test.

There are a lot of ramps in Finglas, some of which you can go over in 3rd gear, but there are others which you'll definitely need 2nd. If your instructor takes you around the general area used by testers he should be able to point out the severe ramps which require 2nd.

thanks for replying, do you know if there are many roundabouts that might be used, if so, can you tell me where, i haven't been on any of them in finglas, are they likely to be mad busy, they are my absolute worst thing, even when they have only a few cars on them, and thats SMALL roundabouts with two lanes lol. biggest i have been on is up by the nct centre in ballymun, but instructor was with me, i thought that one was easier than the smaller ones.
anyway, do you reckon with me being so nervous, that i should postpone the test with it being so busy at that time? i cant afford more lessons at the moment, my friend will bring me but she doesnt know finglas either

I really can't advise you whether to postpone test without seeing your driving, but once you give them at least 10 days notice you can defer it to a later date.
There's not too many roundabouts in Finglas, but there are a couple of mini ones which require attention.

Had mine at 2.55 today. Traffic wasn't that busy but there were lots of kids around. 2 walked out in front of me which was really apreciated. There's no point posponing it though because you'll have to wait another 2 months for a date. Give it a go and good luck!

yes we have great kids here, they know how to NOT to cross roads here, using mobile to text while hanging head down, wait until car is up close, step out an make car stop, you start to go again, their two buddies come charging across then and then continue on oblivious!
i have cancelled several tests because of nerves and lost money by not doing them.. can't keep putting it off. finglas is my nearest test centre, which is why i picked that, i understand if you can drive, you should be able to handle any road, as i said earlier, it's roundabouts that are my big fear, plus if it's busy, i think i will be so nervous i will still be waiting to pull onto roundabout come saturday lol
i have seen so many comments on the boards about finglas roundabouts, that there are so many with a lot of drivers not signalling properly etc. i wouldnt mind so much if it was mon/tue/wed on test at that time, but friday.. although, if i got it for monday, i think i would come up with another excuse too!

sorry to hear you didnt pass, like you say though, just keep trying. it is very wrong that you arent allowed be told exactly why you failed, how can you fix what you dont know about! all they have to do is write it down in the office or tell you in the office in the presence of someone else, just in case you lose the head an try kill them lol.
i suppose its an experience anyway, try try and try again

My instructor said if you want them to elaborate you say "Could i get some feed back on X , I wont get angry or emotional" Some will give feeback, some wont. They're just afraid of causing an incident by criticising a persons driving or a driver contesting descisions.

I got four grade twos for not reacting to hazards in finglas. Think it was due to not slowing enough on speed ramps.

Thats what I thought I got the 4 for first time but I went over them slowly this time. Maybe still not slowly enough.

    How'd it go Lipo anyway?

I haven't cancelled yet, it's not until 5th Nov, have a little bit of time to think on it, am going on lesson up there on tuesday, then again friday, at 2.30 so i can see what the traffic is like, regards the bumps, I think I would be given a mark for them, I have a habit of going up to them too fast, then braking too quickly.
do any of you know the area at drumcondra, junction to clonliffe road, there is a section of road, specifically for right turn (arrow there) if coming from dorset st direction, I sit in that area until I can see if the road is clear of oncoming traffic when green light is on, or wait until filter light is on, but can I go into the yellow box when the light is green?
I haven't seen anyone actually sitting in that junction waiting to turn, they always seem to wait behind the line unless they can do the full turn into clonliffe rd, yet on other junctions you can sit and wait
