Skype Use Much Data Over 3G?

    Have skype set up on 3gs via 3G and I am wondering does anyone else use it and,do making and receiving calls use much of your data allowance.

    i thought you could only use skype when on a wireless network

    On a jailbroken phone it's possible to run apps that are normally WiFi-only like Skype and Sling Player over 3G instead.

    Can't say I use it enough over 3G to notice usage though OP, sorry.

    I've used it a handful of times over 3G ringing my mate who is currently working out of China. Hour calls a piece. Don't know about data usage as I'm on a contract so never think about it. I can't imagine it being much more/less than say streaming radio through WunderRadio.

    On a non-jailbreak phone you're limited to Skype chat over 3G.

    As TinCool says Skype voice should be similar to streaming talk radio, e.g. 32kbps or 64kbps.

    Some more detailed data here if you like - they calculate 26MB per hour. To calculate it exactly for yourself go to Settings / General / Usage on iPhone and note the "Cellular Network Data" value, or hit "Reset Statistics". Then make a call and check the "Cellular Network Data" afterwards.
