2 Babies in less than 2 years - I want to get fit again

    Hi All,

I just joined boards.ie and this is my first post. I've started trying to get my head outside the 4 walls of this house and this is one way of doing that. I also want to get out of the house in order to get fit.

I've been pretty fit in the past, definitely up to 2007, but then I got married and got pregnant and now weight about 14 lbs more than before. I decided it was about time to get my ass in gear and get fit again.

I joined unislim, but do not find it any good whatsoever. I find I am binging and eating crap and then starving to stay within my points. My head isn't straight there.

I have joined a gym which is actually going quiet well. I love getting pushed to work harder, and the classes I am going to are very varied, bit of weights/cardio and lots of fun.

I want to keep going to the classes, but I need to tag on one more class/activity and am looking for suggestions.

I've thought about running, but I have never mastered that. Was more a walker and aerobics type person. Is there a step by step approach to 'teach' you how to run and get past the 'I can't breath' stage?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello and welcome,

14lbs is not a lot to lose , with the right diet and exercise you could shift that in 10 weeks or so.

I would recommend a weights program to go along with your cardio, also have a read of the stickies for some excellent information on diet.

Post up a typlical days diet and we can help you, those points based diets are crap IMO.

[I think zest magazine did a running guide you can get on amazon. It's very good there is also a couch to 5k guide you can get by googling but IMO it's not as good.

Thanks Guys. Will have a look. My daily diet currently is pretty bad.

Morning 8.30 Special K with skim milk
Lunch 12.30-2.30ish (depending on when kids are finished theirs) a dinner. Today it was spaghetti bolognaise with wholemeal pasta.
Usually I am very hungry by 4 and have crackers and salsa .... sometimes lots of crackers. This happened today.
Tea - egg and brown bread.

My challenge is chocolate, usually there is a bar in there somewhere. Keeping away from chocolate and sweet things is my daily challenge, some days it goes o.k. Today I managed to get a bar in for tea. Sorry tale!!

I think you need to take a good look at your diet. You've got a lot of refined carbs there, and not much protein or vegetables.

How about porridge or scrambled eggs instead of special K? Read the packet, it has an incredible amount of sugar.

Try making bolognaise but eat it with vegetables like cauliflower instead of pasta.

Have a piece or two of fruit before your workout, and it's worth investing in some whey powder for making a shake afterwards. Your diet is low in protein and protein is one of the best ways to stop feeling hungry.

Tea is one egg and brown bread? You're joking. You're running round after young children (still breastfeeding?) and that's all you are eating? No wonder you are going on chocolate rampages.

Open a free account with www.fitday.com and enter all your food. It will add it up and keep records of your calories etc.

Try to include some protein in each meal. Eat oily fish regularly, and eat lots and lots and LOTS of vegetables. Don't be afraid of fat either. You won't find many athletes eating Special K for breakfast, they eat eggs, fat and all.

Thanks again. I just stopped breast feeding within the last few weeks. Once he hit the 6 months I thought my time was up. I was suffering with post natal depression, and am blaming the hormones associated with breast feeding for that (a theory, but had the same problem with my 1st). This time though I started binging and purging and that lasted from when the baby was 6 weeks until a few weeks ago. I'm getting that all sorted, my head is coming around big time and I've been getting help. The fitness and the diet is all part of my effort to get myself back on track and cut out the nonsense. I'm not a nutcase (honestly) but having babies seems to drive me off the rails and I can't seem to handle the pressure. I love my babies and at the moment I'm getting it together now that I can take a bit of time for me again (while breast feeding, I didn't have a second and was always rushing back to the house)!!
Like I said, sorry tale. Will check out that web site and thanks again for the pointers.

You poor thing, having two babies in two years would be tough on any one fair play.
Dunno if you're near a lidl but I have their cottage cheese with some berries and nuts for breakfast its great if you're in a rush as you can stick it in a lunch box and eat in on the go/in work (as i'm doing now). Having something you can eat cold might be useful if you're busy with the kids. If you're in Dublin PM me as i joined a really good gym lately i'll tell you about it.
