    why do some people twist the dumbells when doing this? is there benefits to this movement?

    I can press more this way than having them straight across and pressing up.I think it's because they are more stable as they rotate upwards.

    I start with them parallel to my body by my sides and push up, turning them so that my palms are facing outwards at the top of the movement. This way seems to be more natural and doesn't hurt my shoulders like the regular way does.

    To get a full contraction of the the right bicep --> rotate the thumb down and pinky finger up at the top of a curling movement.

    The opposite is true for pressing --> rotate the dumbbell the opposite way (thumb down, pinky up) to get more right tricep contraction.
