There seems to be a debate going on over membership costs etc.

My question is should these "floating" members for want of a better word be looking to join a club and get into the whole club ethos? or stay as a floating member looking for the best deal each year.

There will be plenty of deals to be had on joing a club now.

Throwing it out there for discussion.

im limited for choice as i dont have a car, maybe next year...
but almost all the memberships that are in range of me in south east dublin are heavily overpriced, especially including the startup fee.. so i chose to simply play cheap public courses for the time being to get my game back in shape..

i think ill join a club in my home town (+50miles) in 2010 to avail of membership and get a GUI... i would play there atleast 10 times per year anyway, who knows, maybe id play 20!

but justifying 10,000 joining fee, and so forth, its stupid really..
if i lived beside Corballis, id join it in a flash for that price, but i dont... so illl continue shoppin, but probably just join the home town one.

Well thats a good question, to wait for a club and wait for that great offer that might never come around or just join a club now to get a few rounds in before the end of the year.

When you live in Dublin theres load of choice, but not all clubs are accessible...

    A) Cost (If its too expensive its never an option, unless you want to be in debt!)
    B) Distance (Fair dues to people who are willing to travel for more than an hour on a Sunday morning but if you want a few holes on a Summers evening the course has to be around 20-30 mins away)
    C) Good atmosphere (Some on here rate it highly and it does matter, however you cant have everything)
    D) Practice Facilities (important for obvious reasons)

Many courses in Dublin fall out of the A category..
