Query about RTE news interviews

I notice when RTE interview someone outside the studio, like in the grounds of Leinster House, or in any open area, that they always get the subject to walk towards and then past the camera, as though the camera wasn't there. And they always walk past to the right of the screen. Then the next shot is when the interview is shown as normal. What is the idea of showing us the person walking towards the camera?
The latest example of this was on last night's news when they interviewed an associate of the elderly priest who was kidnapped the other day. Incidentally, the person being interviewed had one shirt collar inside his jumper and the other collar outside...nothing of consequence in real life but in the magnified world of television, wouldn't you think they would have pointed this out to the gentleman in question?:)

I dont see your problem. They usually show them either walking out of the Dáil, or sitting down at their desk and picking up the phone. It's just filler while they introduce the piece.

TV is full of conventions or "grammer". Another is that you can never wear a hat, it could be pelting down as some massive live event is unfolding but you have to sans chapeaux. Also reports have to be done from outside the building in question it appears.

dump the grammer, dump the nodding head shots etc.

Well, I don't have a "problem" with it...I know it's a filler, it just seems a peculiar method of filling. Jeez! You sound like you invented the technique and are a bit miffed that someone would dare to criticize it...why jump down my throat?!! Let's be friends!

I think Mike is being sarcastic and also a bit miffed by RTÉ News use of this filler technique.

I personally have an issue with Reporters Live from the HSE, Scotland Yard or where ever on what ever news, especially when it is lashing rain, go back to the studio please the prob know more about the news back at the studio anyway.

I recomend you watch Charlie Brooker's Newswipe

The you tube below is from Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe episode about News, he seems as anger as you* :)

*He is prob angrier but not as angry as Mike65 :)

Charlies the man! I have never knowingly disagreed with a word he's said regarding the way TV is made.
