Mods, please don't move as i'm hoping those who don't visit the sub-forums will partake in the discussion, you may however move it in a few days.

Despite current ratings being 1/3 of it's season 1 highs, what is your opinion of season 4 thus far?.....do you like the the emphasis on story telling rather then effects and "bling", do you like it's return to season 1 roots....or is it too little too late?

I haven't seen the latest episode (no spoilers here please!), but I'm not sure its a return to season 1 roots. Season 1 had predefined focal points (Save the Cheerleader, Confront Sylar), but this one just seems to be moving forward aimlessly. I'm enjoying it though, I want to know what happens. Better than season 2 and 3, thats for sure.

No typical Heroes season, people full of anticipation of the new season hope for the best and generally the first few episodes it gives hope, only to be let down by the remaining episodes. The ratings doesn't surprise me.

I have to agree. Though this season is showing definite signs of improvement, the show has proved that we can't really judge it until further near the middle of the season, as it has had "false starts" showing promise in the past, only to get even worse than ever before by the end of its' season.

Even if the entire season is pretty strong though, at this stage it simply looks like too little, too late and I don't think the show is in a very secure position at all for making it past this year. And in that event, I hardly believe that the writers will be able to pull off a satisfying ending...

I've added it to my ignore list on MyEpisodes.com (the only programme on it). I'm not bothering to get it as it airs. I may record it when it starts on BBC, but I'm not actively looking for it.

Watching the last season of this and Prison Break really felt like a chore.

i havet seen todays but i know what happens in it - its getting worse and the ratings are down 11 million viewsers since season 1. The 6 or 7 million it has now is still good but it is an expensive show

i doubt heroes will get another season - ill be happy if it does not end of a cliff hanger

I haven't watched Heroes in ages. I watched most of the first season and a few episodes of the second season but got bored of it. Also to be honest, I found some of the cast or the whole essence of the show to be very pretentious. That really put me off.

That's exactly what I've done. I just don't care anymore. It had chances and repeatedly squandered them. My faith was broken years ago and I don't see any reborn moments coming any time soon.

I gave up after episode one of Series 3 and I feel sorry for people that stick with shows even when they know they got rubbish and are going to be cancelled (people who watched Prison Break series 4). I knew the show was going downhill when it didn't present a proper confrontation at the end of the first season and then season 2 which was an absolute joke. You don't spend an entire series bringing these people together just to seperate them again and give them amnesia etc! They really should've went the X-Men route of having the characters fighting a common force together but the person above me is right, they squandered so many chances to fix the show

No. My faith has not been restored. Too much time spent on **** characters like Hiro and Claire Bennett.

I see what most people are saying, but the 3 or 4 episodes this season have been very good. Faith restored? Not yet, because it could just fall apart like it does so many seasons, but I'd honestly rather stick by this which is now having good episodes than try stick with something new but rubbish like Vampire Diaries.

Pretty much the same here. The last season was really a complete waste of televisual viewing. The end of it was particularly stupid. If I hear something great at the end of this season, something that would turn around any skeptic, then I might watch it. But failing that, I don't care what happens in it anymore.

What? WHAAAT? Lesbian scene?? Damnit, tell me which episode so I don't need to watch them all.

Kill of Hiro/Ando. They have served their purpose. Same thing with Claire. Or get her buried alive. Something that will just get rid of them. Parkman is getting semi-interesting, after the void that was in the previous season.

It looks like their gearing up for another freaks Vs normal people war and it's great to see teabag (from prison break)
as the leader of the freaks gang.

Thats whats keeping my interest anyway.

I've been quite impressed by it so far. There's been definite improvement. I wouldn't say my faith is totally restored as it wouldn't surprise me if it dipped and went awful again.

The only reason I've stuck with it this far is because I feel I've invested enough in it and I figure there can't be much left.

Well based on ratings I am quite certain this will be the last season.

Robert Knepper is a great addition this year and it is amazing how one actor can make such a huge difference. Mohinder is gone so that's one annoying character out of the way.

I thought it might be interesting to revive this thread, we're a few more episodes along.....how do you feel now?

Personally i think it's the best series since season 1, but still can't be truely compared to season 1. season 4's arc and characters and the (very) slow development has ignited my interest in the show once again.

I now look forward to Monday to see what happens.

this season is a lot better than the last 2,that's for sure. But all this praise for season 1...sure it was really great for the first half, good for most of the second and then just filtered out with a few lackluster final episodes and a really bad season finale. They built the whole Sylar v Peter v Hiro battle for 20something episodes and it was the biggest anti-climax ever!

Nope, the biggest anti-climax ever was the fight between Sylar and Peter/Nathan last season behind those f***ing closed doors!

not really, because the season was a mess and they hadn't been building up some massive fight all season, season 1 had built up Sylar v Peter for so long after their first encounter at the high school. Peter learning his powers etc, then in the episode where we see the future they have a fight behind closed doors as well, but you think they didn't show the fight because it wasn't the finale which they were saving it for...but that was a bust.

I'm actually really enjoying this season, but I find it hard to see the end point. Knepper's carnival vs. the good guys?

Agree totally with this...other years/seasons I'd have been firing up a torrent client as soon as an ep went up...but a mate mentioned to me a few weeks back that Heroes was starting again and it didn't stir anything in me at all. I'll probably watch it when it's on BBC.

As regards Prisonbreak I made it half way through the 3rd season and just lost interest entriely...I think I still have the reamining eps on a harddrive somewhere but I'd prefer to watch paint dry...pity really, as the first season had my attention.

Maybe these shows peak too early or something, you have that phenomenon of the "difficult second album", or maybe their popularity and increased interest push storylines and characters in directions they maybe shouldn't have gone...I don't know. But it's a trend I'm seeing in more and more shows...

fresh bump for fresh opinions, we're almost at the end of the current season....so what do you think based on the 16 eps. thus far?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,066 ✭✭✭youcancallmeal

I gave up on this halfway through season 3, it seemed aimless and the plot twists were becoming more and more frustrating. Did it improve at all? I'm thinking I might make a half hearted effort to catch up

Ooh, you're a bit ahead of me - but I think so far; it's certainly an improvement on previous seasons.

Season 1 is still the benchmark. Christopher Ecclestone and Malcolm McDowell were superb.

It was my favourite show in Season 1, dipped in Season two and Season 3.1 but I though season 3.2 was returning to form.

Now I've given up about halfway through Season 4 because I just wasn't looking forward to watching it anymore.

I can actually pinpoint where I lost all interest, its seems to fit in with the ratings too:

A bit of hard work and doing the show the way it ought to have been done from the start is not enough to renew my faith in this stinker and that little blonde troll.

Heroes like Lost in one of those shows I'll go back and watch once they finish. I was excited for both shows and bought the first season of each on DVD as I cannot abide watching shows week by week but as the season progressed and I began season 2 of both I just gave up. It was obvious that the writers were making it up as they went along with some vague idea where it was all going. I think that had both shows had their episodes run cut to maybe 12 per season then the overall quality would have improved. Shows such as Sons of Anarchy fit in far more plot and stories in 12 episodes per season that Heroes manages in 22.

I'm also getting tired of the false hope from the writers in the run up to each new season, this time it's going to be different, more adult, etc, etc only for it to be yet another completely meh experience.

Edit: For every episode of Heroes there are at least 3 shows unfairly canceled in recent years. How I wish the Unusual had been renewed and the Dresden Files, etc, etc...

I had completely forgotten about this disaster of a television series. I now know of nobody who watches it. Everyone has given up on it now.

QFT. I stopped after season 2 as it became clear the writers had no idea where they were going creatively or how best to present the characters other than re-setting them. I feel sad for anyone still watching it, reminds me of when Prison Break got a fourth season too. Anyone that's sticking with it, come on - the party's over, has been for a long time - move on!
