I was told recently that the Snapper was never released on Dvd... Is this true? If so how can we change it!!?

Nope, its out on region 1 i think, its a wonder really considering its one of the most beloved Irish movies, never liked it myself but used to constantly get asked for it when i worked in hmv, as in at least five times a week

    Due for release in November

It is amazing that it hasn't been released before. The logical thing, though I don't know if it's possible with rights ownership and all that, would be a Barrytown Trilogy box set.

Fox own the rights to The Commitments so the families name had to be changed from Rabbitte to Curley for The Snapper as it was a different production company, same family though

Little known fact about The Snapper - Michael Cleary's son has a cameo in it. I was in school with the chap.

Does this then mean, if Fox own the rights, there won't be a box set? I've been holding out on buying The Commitments and The Van for that reason. So now it looks like it's time to just buy the three individuals. What a pity.

I met Pat Laffan, who plays the infamous George Burgess, last year when he was doing a reading of an author's book. He sat reading, all the time rubbing his shirted belly in a circular motion while doing so. You really wanted to know that, didn't you? Well, I thought it was funny, anyway.

I always wondered why they changed the names of the family... Pretty stupid reason though, are characters' names even copyrighted now?

its available on many digital downlaod sites, but currently is only available in Region 1 DVD in hard copy format. Great to see its finally released here. Youd wonder why it took so long

They didnt just changed the names. They changed the characters. In the Snapper, a teenage girl called Lisa is part of the family. She is not in the book.

Always thought it never got a DVD release because it was made for TV?

The movie "Kings" has only being released on Region 1 also.

Legally it's a derivative work. It's been the case for a long long time.

An ideal time (recession) to release this classic. Celtic cubs wouldn't have got it.:D

Does anybody know if the film was restored for this new dvd release?
The original region 1 dvd was a straight copy from video and was pretty poor quality.

Most made-for-TV movies never get a DVD release.

While it was made for TV, its success did lead to a cinema release.

I received it today after ordering from Amazon. I notice it's 4:3 with stereo audio. Is there a 16:9 version at all? Since it was originally made for TV I'd guess not.

On the other hand, I had to get the special edition of The Commitments to get the 16:9 version, the version more readily available is 4:3.

Check that user Eoinzzz's profile and you will see that all his posts are about how remarkably cheap that website is. rolleyes.gif It's also not an Irish website, they are based in the UK. Beware!
