    Hi,
A few members of my local club are planning on doing a Malin-Mizen spin next year (possibly around easter). I was just wondering if any of you could share advice on it or tips if you have done it previously, we are not really worried about being fit enough, we all hope to be, but in terms of an itinerary, number of days we should do it in etc we are scratching our heads at the moment and would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks

did it last year, going the scenic route, staying in Killarney, Spanish Pt, Galway, Ballyhaunis, Ballyshannon, Letterkenny ... we took the ferries at Tarbert and Rathmullan.

It worked out as 700k over 7 days - giving us plenty of time to enjoy the trip too. great week

Did Malin, Bundoran, Westport/Carrowkennedy, Galway, Lahinch, Tralee, Glengariff, Mizen last year, which ranged from around 160km on one day to around 70km on another day. One thing I'd say is to start the journey off on the right foot - don't try to 'rush through' the start of the trip to get as much done on the first day or two. Avoid the main roads if at all possible. Avoid Bundoran really at all times, it's just a bit of a kip. If you can go through Conamara and through the Kerry Mountains, it really adds a sense of achievement to the trip. Get the ferry as suggested below. And enjoy it! Don't just rush from one point to the next, enjoy the sights and sounds of the country you're passing.

Oh, and if you start from Malin, head up to the most northerly pub in Ireland for a few pints before you go!

Oh and investigate any local festivals while you're on the bike.
