What does anyone think of this new generation of VW car compared to other superminis?

Am thinking of getting one of these. Which is best? Are they all much the same with different styling, branding and pricing? if so, then the skoda is cheapest.

The Polo is very expensive for what it is. Seat really missed a trick with the Ibiza this time - interior is only ok and the engine range is a bit old tech for some (deliberate?) reason. On that basis I would go for the Fabia, although it doesn't benefit from the most modern range of engines either. Nicer interior than the Ibiza and should prove reliable. Plus they can be customized with different colour combinations if thats your thing. Kinda have a bit of a Mini look about them.

If we are talking about the new Polo then that would be my choice, a very well rounded car by all accounts.

Everything EPM said above is bang on the money.....Now if it was me I'd be buying none of the above. For me in that class its between the new Fiesta or wait to see the new Citroen C3 which looks super in pictures. The face-lifted Clio and Honda Jazz ( probably considered a half size bigger ) all deserve a mention too.

I'd go for the Polo too - By all accounts a very good car and in my opinion the best looking too. I'd try and wail for the 1.2tsi.

It is hard to look past the new Ford Fiesta imo to be honest. I would have it everytime over the above mentioned VAG models.

thanks everyone. I have just picked up my new polo.

    5% discount off list.

I got the 70bhp 1.2. (500 more than the 60hbp). I would love to have bought the 105bhp tsi but it is another 6,500 which is just too much for me (nearly 50% more than the base price).

Ouch - new Polo and new VW lower pricing on the way.

Ya, heard about that too, 10% across the board on all the 3 remaining vag brands(VW, Skoda and Seat) is the rumour anyway. Audi have already announced the 10% reduction

The others don't have much choice really.

The new model Polo looks very good actually and its styling looks as if it will stand the test of time, unlike the Fiesta. It also actually seems to be a better car this time round than the Ibiza and Fabia.

I dunno what the fuss is over the Fiesta - dynamics and looks - amongst journos. To me it looks very fussy and gimmicky-looking.

Mazda 2 is the same car but prettier, more distinctive and more unusual. Why is it forgotten?

Its costly enough for what it is here. Agree though, fine car.

Best of luck with your new car OP. Hope for your own sake you plan on keeping it for a while because by the sounds of it you've said over the odds
