Afaik, Dublin Co Co are building a new gym and pool at the old pool site in front of the barracks.
    Don't know completion dates.

If its the council doing this does that mean it will be pay as you go as well as membership for the gym there?

Yeah sure it'd be on the same lines as Ballymun, Finglas, Mark-o-vitch :pac:, Irishtown etc.

    Folks,
Any idea when this will be opening? I walk passed it every day. Work seems to be finished on it but still no sign of opening?

I dont think I'd beleive anything on that site without verifying it first - they seem to have an agenda (to put it mildly)

I seriously doubt they have a power rack - most gyms of that type don't. I could be wrong though.

I plan to pop in soon and try out the place. I'll let you know.

Hope this isn't an inappropriate bump, but does anyone have any reports on what the Swan gym is like?

Its pretty small, and last time I was there (3ish months ago) there was no power rack, two smith machines (unless one of them was a sneaky power rack, I didn't inspect it too closely but I'm 90% sure it wasn't), no bench, 3 folding benches, a cable crossover machine, pull up bar, a good range of dumbells from 1kg-40kg and a loada treadmills and the likes. It got crowded very easily coz of the lack of benches and machines, and I got hit on by gay lad.. I was chuffed tbh. I wouldnt recommend it if you're serious bout the gym but its a good place to go just to get some exercise, especially with the pool there too.

    Hey,
I go there alllllll the time. ITs busy at the usual busy times like every gym. Especially on a Sunday between 12-1 for a bit, every single machine will be in use and they place is packed, but an hour or two either side is fine.

They have all that the last poster said, and also an Ezy bar and plates, and Olympic bar (kept in a press at back of gym so ask and they will show you, 3 adjustable benches, good weights rack; rubber and standard, and a bench press. It is strange that they have 2 Smith Machines and no squat rack but anyway.

They also have a leg press, leg extension, leg curl, chest press, shoulder pulldown, 4 rowers, a good few treadmills, emmmm......cross trainers/bikes etc. Theres a little bit of space for ab work and mats there to use. Also gym balls, and medicine balls up to 10kg.

So its all you need IMO. Just get there at a decent time and you could have to weights area all to yourself! You dont need anymore than whats there...tho a squat rack would be brill and kettle bells but hey, its e6 to use the gym so thats good value I think! :)
