wHy are capital letters always used on bank atm/credit cards,letters from the bank,post office,TV licence,court, ECT ECT,when addressing you ?

example..TOM WATTS
23 Main st
Take a look at your bank/credit/safe pass/medical/drugs payment cards your name is always in capital letters

Whats the reason behind this?

The vogue for natural "genuine" letters which look like they might have been written by a human is a recent thing.

In a lot of cases they only use upper-case when addressing the person then lower-case in the actual address of the person.

Banks (for example) don't deal with individuals. All legal agreements are done between the bank and a NAMED PERSON. The NAMED PERSON is a legal entity. You, as an individual, represent that NAMED PERSON.
