Monthly sign - on

My first monthly sign-on is coming up and I was just wondering what I need to bring? I have my jobs apps (from online) printed out and any (fledgling responses) and that's it. Is this all I need or do any of you for instance make out a list of job hunting websites you use to give to the social welfare or a list of say shops you applied to in town (where you dropped your CV in). I was told between 2-4 so I guess I just get down there with a book and wait to sign-in? Thanks

Monthly sign on is just a big long queue, so you may not have the chance to read a book - consider wearing an MP3 player and listen to an audiobook instead.

Bring some ID and your social welfare card if you have it. Wear comfortable shoes :)

You'll literally just stand in a queue, when you get to the top they'll pull out "your" card, you'll sign your name and leave. Monthly sign-on is not where they stop for chats.

Oh, I was under impression you had to provide evidence of seeking work?

It's just like Thoie said - just a queue and when you get to the top you present your social welfare card and sign your name and then you're free to go.

Evidence of job searching etc comes into play if you're asked to come in for an interview of some sort.

    Oh great, thanks!

    Hello,

Does anyone know if your monthly signing time is fixed. Last month was my first sign-on and my initial letter indicated my sign on date and a time of 2pm. At the time there was a sign that said 2-Dec next sign on day and my weekly receipt from the PO also indicates this date. My question is, is that time fixed, could I go in the morning or possibly 3PM? The reason is my wife is now working only temporary and a few hours per week - she just got the call tonight and we have a conflict and I'll need to collect my daughter from school at 2PM. How flexible is the time?

2pm is just the time the place opens at, in reality if you turn up at 3 or 4 (assuming it is open this late, in Cork its about 2.5-3hrs I think) it won't make a difference. If you've somewhere to be, get there at 1.30, be at top of queue and you'll be out by 2.10. Obviously if you turn up before 2, the desk you require won't be open.

    Hi Tommy,

Thanks!! I assume the office is only open for sign on after 2PM or can I sign on before lunch in the morning or is sign on unavailable before 1PM?

If it says 2pm on the letter, then it will be closed until that time and probably open until 4.30 pm. Best to ring and check if they'll answer or else get in for 3.30 when they definately will still be open.

To add to this, I'm not sure if you know, but you go and get a ticket when you go in and are seen in that order. So your "appointment" for 2 isn't exactly what it sounds. Hope this helps.

    Hi Tommy,

Thanks again for that. I've tried calling before, but unfortunately they don't answer the phone, at least in Galway. Also in Galway for the sign on they don't do tickets, just a very long queue, so it sounds like I'll be able to get there at about 3PM, but I'll have to bring my daughter with me.

    Thanks!!:)
