Removing Auto Restriction

This isn't an issue at this stage, but I've got a full Irish license with the automatic restriction on this. Would I need to go through the entire process again (in particular the theory test) or just book a test and go in with my restricted full license and take the test in a manual? Have an auto here in Ireland and my full kiwi license allows me to drive manuals when visiting overseas doesn't make it too big an issue now, but I can see it becoming one later.

    Thanks.
That's a real pain in the backside. Maybe I'll just stick to autos in this country then!

Thanks for your response. I'll check with them and post a response so that people here have it for future reference.

I guess there is no harm in getting another learner permit so I can take the test again at my leisure.

Can't just use your auto licence to accompany yourself ;)

By the way, on a related topic, say I'd a restricted cat.B licence then went and did a C theory test, would I get a restricted C permit? Or does such a thing even exist? Doesn't affect me personally, I'm just curious.

So with a restricted car licence you could still learn to drive a manual truck/bus? When you pass your test, would the restriction still apply to cat.B? Even though cat.C technically covers a car too...

This is the response I got regarding my query about removing the automatic transmission restriction:

Thank You for your query, you will not have to do your theory test again but you will have to apply for a learner permit for manual transmission and you will have to sit a practical driving test to get your full driving licence in B manual transmission.

    Hoping this answers your query.

I would have assumed this to be the case as the theory is the same no matter whether you drive an automatic or manual car but then you do never know in this country :)
