    Hi,

    I'm thinking of quitting my job. If I quit do I still qualify for dole? I heard that I might have to wait 6 weeks after I finish to get the dole...is this true? And if it is then will the 6 weeks dole be back-dated?

    Thanks

    If you leave your job of your own accord, you can be disqualified from claiming social welfare for up to 9 weeks.

    It's all here under 'Loss of Employment'

    Looks like if you quit then you can't claim for 9 weeks :(

    thanks everyone...it says:

    You may be disqualified from getting Jobseeker's Benefit for 9 weeks if you:
    • Left work voluntarily and without a reasonable cause
    anyone know if being bullied by your boss constitutes are "reasonable cause"? it's not like my boss will give me a letter saying he's bullying me, that i could give to the social welfare office

    ====================================================

    also, a friend of mine just told me that she was fired from her job and just told social welfare that she was let go because the shop was over-staffed and they gave her jobseekers benefit no questions asked. could i not do the same if i leave the job?

    thanks again everyone!

    You could go for Constructive Dismissal, maybe have a word with your union if you have one or a solicitor who specialises in work related probs

    if you've been on the dole before you probably wouldn't ask a question like that. If your job feels like a prison, then being on the dole is solitary confinement.

    only quit if the job is really affecting you mentally or physically and I mean affecting you a lot. you may end up on the dole for a few years in this climate, so only go on it if you really cannot stay in the job at all.

    Bullying is reasonable cause but you would need something to back up your claim.

    And lying to Social Welfare is fraud.

    Everybody should make up their own mind re quitting a job. If you have enough savings, have thought about the matter and you have absolutely have had enough of the job then why not quit. There are jobs out there as 2 of my colleagues have done since they quit my place and got jobs in a similar branch where conditions are better. Don't let anyone here make up the mind for you. Do it yourself.
