About to start on TG4. Former Cork Minor and current Cork U-21 Jack Herlihy is out for Newtown, bit of a blow. Pat Barry in for Sars.

    Newtown by 2 regardless.

Pretty unremarkable stuff really. Needs a goal or a dirty strike.

Cussen is an automatic for the hurling league next year. Sars should have just put 12 men into their own half like Erins Own did a couple of years back - its the most effective way to defeat a running team like Newtown.

Is he likely to give up the football or will he try and balance the two? Definately a better option for full forward than Aisake anyway

Give aisake a chance, he was only back from oz and still threatened the goal this yr, he's touch should be alot better next yr. Cussen was good today tho and has been all yr

It will be both Cussen and Aisake, if the former trumps for hurling that is. Hopefully Mark O'Sullivan as well, that will be three strong, tall forwards for the league next year.

Was O'Sullivan the centre forward for the intermediates? I was fairly impressed of what i saw of him against Waterford, definately thought he would be an improvement on some of the forwards at ye're disposal. He won't score all round him though but he should limit the oposition centre back from dominating. What about Adrian Mannix and Leigh Desmond, should they be on the panel?

Yes to your first question, no to Desmond and Mannix, we already have enough quick lightweight hurlers on the Cork squad.

Maybe so but they are surely better than ahem "Hero"! Mannix is after bulking up a lot as well

Hopefully, we won't see Hero anywhere near a Cork shirt in the future. ;)

Lads just thought I get your opinions on a situation in Newtown, Dermot 'chopper' Gleeson who is from Ballinahinch - a small intermediate club in North Tipperary ( same club as Shane McGrath who has stayed loyal to them ) and he lives there still and works in Limerick, was captain of Newtown how do other members of the panel feel about him been made captain, when the only reason he transferred to Newtown was the prospect of winning an AI, I just cant ever imagine spomething like this happening in my own club, fair enough lots of clubs have taken Imports but to make them captain seems a bit much.

Sure you Cork lads do that every year :D Sorry, couldn't resist.

Aside from Cussen, I thought Sars were very poor up front.

There are a lot of members of the Newtown panel that have transferred from neighbouring parishes-I can think of 3 lads off hand: I'm sure they don't mind him being captain!!

I wasnt aware of that but Balinahinch is in no way shape or form a neighbouring club the guy has zero connection with the place only that their former manager recruited him when he was in UL - all a bit of a farce IMO.

I would say something if he was working in Cork or had been at some time, but he went to college in Limerick, works in Limerick, lives in Tipperary but plays club hurling for a club iin Cork  and they just happen to be far more successfull than he's home club.

Its just something that grates me hugely and I would have far more respect for someone like he's fellow Ballinahinch native Shane McGrath who has stuck with Ballinahinch despite the fact that success is very unlikely even at intermediate level.

My point is that I know of a few lads who've transferred from neighbouring parishes....just for success. I see where you're coming from but surely Shane McGrath is getting enough success from playing with Tipp.

I presumed Gleeson had moved to the area and then played with Newtown...not just played with Newtown cos they are great! So much for pride in the parish.

I play with a club team up the country but only because work does not enable me to play with my beloved Limerick club. I have no devotion to this club, its great to get a game of hurling every now and again and the training is great but I did not transfer up to gain success.

I hate to hear of this s**t happening. How do ya stop it or can you stop it?

I understand 1 player who might have had a falling out with his home club but when a few lads join togeather it looks like lads are poaching at work. Why do clubs coach kids all the way up develop skills and then send out the scouts?.

We have 1 lad from outside who plays Senior football with us but like Shannonsider its to awkward for him to get home with work. We have 3 hurlers (junior) but they live in the parish. We have 2 lads who also play hurling with us but football with our neighbouring club. One would get onto our Senior team but it simply wont happen.

He is rightfully proud of his home club and we simply respect that and the loss he would be to them.

So do alot of people but the unfortunate truth is he's own intermediate club wasnt big enough for the great 'chops' so he knew the trainer of Newtown at the time through UL and off he went to play for a club two counties and roughly 80 miles away
