I actually don't watch this show at all but literally flicked over as the judges were having a go and that bloke and really thought that was a low blow on her part?! Very immature

it was fairly stupid alright-as if she was trying to be funny or something

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,336 ✭✭✭✭Busi_Girl08

    I know, I was disgusted.
His sexual life is nothing to do with her or the show, and she made it her business to make some stupid smarmy comment, and it seems to have backfired hysterically against her.

Let's see her talk her way out of this one!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,194 ✭✭✭Little Miss Cutie

She is an idiot!! Is she trying to out him so that girls won't vote for him??

I think her comment was way below the belt and seemed totally inapproriate.

didn't see it. What did she say?

Dannii suggested that Danyl's mention of gender is in his song should be male and not female.
That type of comment is much more acceptable in Australia.
Their attitude is if you're a poofter just admit it mate!!
Simon Cowell is not going to forget that in a hurry.

What did she say I missed it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,314 ✭✭✭weiland79

'No need to change the gender references, if we're to believe everything we read in the press,' laughed Dannii, with a wink.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 502 ✭✭✭itsallaboutme!!

it was way out of line alright very bad form on her part1

she said "if we are to believe what we read in the papers there was no need to change the gender references in the song". she basically outed danyl on the show.

    What song did he sing?

The poor guy! What an idiot she is! I mean she basically either outed the guy to the whole of the UK Ireland and wherever else or is playing on his vulnerability to question his sexuality in a bid to demean him.

His sexuality is none of her business or anyone elses.

She did it to try and lose him the teeny bopper vote as for some stupid reason she probably thinks that they won't vote for a gay guy....or girl for that matter!

    I Feel Love.

    ( I jest. I jest)

the song was called im telling you but cant remember who its by. its usually sung by a woman so the gender references would be towards a man and danni said that there was no need to change them if we are to believe what the papers are saying

fair play to her! thats funny! hes a ghey so he should say hes a ghey!

It was absolutely none of her business whether he is gay/bi/whatever.

It is a SINGING competition. Will Young sings to women, no-one calls him out on it.

The song was sung by Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls the film

Dannii made a joke about the media and the stories that they produce. It was a joke that didn't go down well. You'd swear she called his mother a whore ffs.

It's not actually a Jennifer Hudson song, it's from the musical Dreamgirls which opened in 1981.

I've always disliked Danni, she just seems clueless and she tries too hard to be funny. Don't like her at all at all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,264 ✭✭✭Pretty_Pistol

I'm not a fan of Danyls, he's far too cocky for my liking, but when Dannii said that I was like "Wow, bitch-chyyyy". I don't like or dislike Dannii but it did seem like a deliberate way to embarass him on national TV which shows more about her then him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 596 ✭✭✭Bonkers_xOx

I think it was a bit stupid of her tbh. People were just starting to warm to her this series but now she's gone and done it.
Her comment was just so irrelevent.

:(i felt so sorry for him, he gave an amazing performance probably crippled with nerves and then for her to not even comment on his performance, it's disgraceful. she calls herself a judge she should really call herself a gossip queen. after all she went tru last year with live hurtful comments she should know better.

There was no need for her to say it and she's gone down in my estimations because she did.

Do you think the contestants should announce their sexual preferences before or after their performances, or incorporate this irrelevant data into the song they happen to be singing?

In your opinion, if they find themselves in the sing-off, should they do so also, or vary it in some way?

They should sub Danni with Kylie

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11 softwing

In fairness to Simon, when the girls were having a go at Kandi Rain with regards to their Pole Dancing past, he said, it was irrelevant and it was an honest days work. Dani's comments were in poor taste, I hope she got a basting for it after the show.
I wonder if he was voted off tonight would he have redress to accuse her of defefamation of character and sabotaging his chances?
I just hope the X Factor management is wise enough to have her apologise, she certainly hasn't done herself any favours even if she thought she was being funny.

So what if he is gay there was no need for her to point it out! Ridiculous comment!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90 ✭✭HerbSimpson

    Well

    1. He came out himself in a major newspaper saying he was bisexual
    2. They actively changed the gender reference in the song when they didnt have to
    3. She didn't say anything negative about it
    4. If he's openly bisexual he shouldn't hide that to do well it the x factor

.....and given Dannii's indiscretion at a lap-dance club a few years ago, she again shows how much of a hypocrite she is.

Dear unholy god no, anything but that i'll even put up with Danni, her and kylie need to crawl under ayers rock and die. What qualifies danni to be on the show genuinely i'm asking cos i dunno why. Is it her crazy wondering eye cos that would make sense cos she can watch simon and louis at the same time, apart from that i'm at a loss.

In reference to her comment she's a tool and tools will normally make comments easily related to being a tool.

About him changing the reference in the song of course he's gonna change it 99% of people would change the reference. The other 1% wouldn't understand the song

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,876 ✭✭✭deelite

The audience did not laugh at her comment - it just wasn't funny.

I think she tried to say something to him to bring him down a peg or two but that wasn't the comment to make to do so. Louis also gave him a hard time but that was based on his antics off stage - telling the other hopefuls that they've no chance as he's already won the competition.....

He outed himself to the press weeks ago. I think her comment was meant in jest, knowing that most people watching knew he was bisexual so there was no need to change the gender.

It backfired badly but I doubt if there was any maliciousness intended.

i think it was supposed to be a joke...i read that he was joking about it in the rehersals earlier in the day and it was a follow on from that, i dont think she meant it the way it sounded. also he looked quite upset, strange when it was him that said it in the papers in the first place, he could have kept quiet if he wanted to...i like danni but she did go a bit too far!!

Cheryl and Danni both had their backs up last nite about everything....

    Yup Jennifer Holiday, amazing performance.
I've always disliked Danni, she just seems clueless and she tries too hard to be funny. Don't like her at all at all.

I've actually always seen Danni as the most genuine judge, always primarily concerned with giving constructive criticism in comparison to the pissing contests between say Simon and Louis where they are more concerned with scoring points over each other than in the contestants. I mean Simon was pretty insulting towards MISS Frank on Saturday, he didn't even know their names. What she said was out of character and came across wrong, even Simon said that on Sunday night.

I do agree though, she does make a lot of jokes that fall flat, she was bound to have a big 'foot in mouth' moment eventually.

He's probably not even bisexual. Although it is handy if he wants to appeal to the two main audience's that watch X Factor. Women and gay men.:D

This is exactly how I felt about it! Her comment in itself was not homophobic - it was the subsequent UPROAR that is in fact homophobic. As if to suggest he might be gay is such an INSULT and a SLANDER against him and how dare she!!

If she had said something to a male contestant about hearing that he was popular with the ladies with a wink would everyone have been up in arms because his hetrosexuality is none of her business? I don't think so!!

Antony Cotton: 'Dannii was being pro-gay'

Coronation Street star Antony Cotton has claimed that Dannii Minogue's controversial X Factor remark deserves praise rather than condemnation.

Minogue was slammed at the weekend for commenting on contestant Danyl Johnson's bisexuality live on air. She spoke out on Saturday night's show after the schoolteacher changed the lyrics to 'And I Am Telling You' to refer to "the best woman I'll ever know" instead of "the best man".

She told Johnson: "If we're to believe everything we read in the papers, there was no need to change the gender references."

Gay actor Cotton, who plays Weatherfield's camp factory worker Sean Tully, has now suggested that fans' debates should focus on why the lyrics were altered.

Writing on Twitter, he commented: "Dannii Minogue is the least homophobic woman in the world. And personally, I think she made a very pro-gay comment."

Cotton continued: "Just watched again. Cheryl [Cole] began the slot by saying, 'He's singing a woman's song - it's ridiculous'. So the lyrics must have been changed because it must be a problem for a man to sing a song about another man.

"That is not Danyl's fault and it certainly isn't Dannii's fault for flagging it up."

A recent survey found that 83% of viewers want Minogue to be sacked for her remark. However, X Factor producers have vowed to stand by her following her recent on-air apology.

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/xfactor/s3/coronationstreet/news/a181686/antony-cotton-dannii-was-being-pro-gay.html

Says it all really, to say she was homophobic is just wrong. Maybe Dannii was being underhanded, or maybe she was just making a fair observation. But homophobic? Never.

    Oh and if you want to see an article written by a 12 year old read this;

4000 people have apparently complained to Ofcom. I'd imagine Louis absence this week may deflect things away from Danni...judges shoudl just comment on singing, but the whole of XF is scripted, wouldn't surprose me if Simon even knew she was going to make that comment.

As I said elsewhere, it's such a coincidence that this happened on the eve of the NOTW releasing an article with direct quotes from Louis Walsh stating that Danyl Johnson had bullied Kandy Rain.

I wasnt crazy about her last year and it was only this year that I found myself saying that she was really nice and genuine and one of my favourite judges...... until last week!!`

That is very possible, very sneaky tactics!! but then again the whole show is fixed anyway so it wont make a difference
