Surly dealer in Ireland??

    Hi all,

I'm looking to pick up a Surly Pacer frameset.

    Link: http://surlybikes.com/frames/pacer_frame/

The dealer locator on the surly site is a bit crap and google isn't coming up with anything... does anyone know if there's a surly dealer in Ireland? Or do I need to go looking elsewhere?

Also, any steel roadies or commuters have an opinion on the frame or have any other suggestions? It will be my new commuter bike in and out of Dublin.

    Cheers,

    Stephen

Cycleways are the only one I can think of that deal in Surly (but I am open to correction)

Pacer looks to be a decent, solid frame... will be heavy though :)

Cycleways or Cyclelogical will order you a Surly. They don't keep any in stock though, so you need to be fairly sure about the sizing before you order.

I have a Cross Check, which is similar to the Pacer. I can't say enough good things about it, but that's because it has a few features that the Pacer doesn't have (ability to fit wide tires being the main one). Like Tiny says, it will be heavy, but Surly frames are extremely durable and ideal for daily usage. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks for the replies!

I know it will be heavier than a lot of frames out there, but I already have a road bike and I think this will be perfect for the streets of Dublin. I commute about 25k a day so it won't be an issue. I was thinking about a single speed bike, but I don't think I can part with gears just yet... :pac:

In terms of size, penexpers, is there anything I should be looking out for when sizing one? Did you find that Surly did something out of the ordinary with listing the size specs? I think I'll have to go purely off the paperwork as I haven't seen a single surly in Dublin.. And I reckon I'll be looing for a 52 so that makes it even less likely to find one to test ride.

It's a bit of a gamble but I've made my mind up on this frame.

Any more tips or advice would be much appreciated.

Hey nothing odd in the sizing. I had a 56cm Kona Dew before and I got a 56cm CC and the sizing was about the same. What Cycleways did for me is they found a bike with a similar top tube and standover height for me to try before I ordered. So get the top tube/standover measurement and go into the shop with them.

One thing to be aware of because you mentioned commuter is that the Pacer doesn't have rackmounts - but you can still use p-clips.

Hollingsworth Cycles stock Surly, on the website and they have bikes in the shop (well they did last time I was there).

That's funny.. I also have a Kona Dew at the moment and want to replace it with the Surly.

And by that logic a 52 should be ok for me.

Hollingsworth is just down the road from me so I might pop into them - hopefully they'll have something in my size I can compare to.

    thanks for all the responses.

Yeah, Cyclelogical sprang to my mind too (though I've never heard of this particular brand of bike before).
