Just a reminder that John Duddy is fighting tonight on the Lopez vs. Mtagwa card. The undercard is a fairly good one with John Duddy, Monte Barrett & Gamboa on it. Israel Vasquez is also fighting tonight.

I know but what was his performance like? Arum said he not only needed to win but needed to win impressively.

    Just saw this on boxerc
In a competitive Middleweight bout on the undercard of the Lopez-Mtagwa championship bout fight card at Madison Square Garden, Irish John Duddy of New York City won a unanimous eight round decision over Michi Munoz of Topeka, Kansas. Ireland's Duddy, 27-1, 17 kayos, came forward aggressively and won the first seven rounds with effectively jab combinations. Munoz, now 21-4 with 14 kos, was 'in the house' though, and countered at times, but he just couldn't land as many punches as the more accurate Duddy. The bout appeared closer than the scoring indicated, however. Munoz appeared to win the eighth and final round, landing a considerable number of power punches as Duddy tired abit.

That's not good news. Tired in the 8th round?

    ESPN a bit more generous
    Duddy cruises on untelevised undercard

Middleweight John Duddy (27-1, 17 KOs), the New York-based Irish brawler with a custom of bleeding, was indeed dripping blood from his nose barely a minute into the first round, but it didn't stop him from cruising to an eight-round decision against Jorge "Michi" Munoz (21-4, 13 KOs), of Topeka, Kan.

Duddy peppered Munoz throughout the fight and was never in danger despite the bloody nose, winning 80-72 and 79-73 (twice).

Duddy, 30, had been considered as an opponent for middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik last year, but cuts and uneven performances cost him the shot. Then he suffered his first loss April 24, when Billy Lyell, a journeyman from Pavlik's hometown of Youngstown, Ohio, took a split decision against him.

For his comeback, Duddy split with trainer Pat Burns and reunited with Harry Keitt, who had trained Duddy from his fourth pro fight until mid-2007.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has designs on matching Duddy with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on a pay-per-view card next year in New York.

The match up with Chavez might be a good contest for Paddy's Day.

    Thanks for info lads.

Heard on Newstalk it was a bit of a snoozefest.

Duddy needs to start stepping it up and quickly.
