    According to this
    http://ie.tv.ign.com/articles/103/1038961p1.html

there will be a break in S6 on ABC for the Winter Olympics. The only good side is that we should get the couple of eps before the break a little earlier as a result.

I suppose if it starts back January 20th (assuming it's still on a Wednesday on ABC) and stops on February 10th for the Olympics (they start the 12th), then we would have 5 episodes of the show (really 6 as the premiere will be 2 hours) before the break.

I dunno, seems like a potential receipt for disaster to me. They should just broadcast straight through the Winter Olympics, to hell with the ratings. They hardly matter at this stage.

If the above date turns out to be correct, then the show would be back on RTE/Sky on January 24.

I don't see it being a disaster. It's only 2 weeks, not going to kill anyone. Nothing like the season 3 break did. If you are watching it now then you are here to the end.

I must say I wasn't aware the winter Olympics was such a ratings draw in the states. I wouldn't have thought they would in anyway register but there you go.

There have been breaks in every season since Season 2 so I don't think a break early in Season 6 will matter too much to the people still watching the show. I think anyone who has stuck with the show this far will cope with a 2 week break, especially seeing as it will be so close to the end of the show.

I'm not sure how the Winter Olympics can clash with Lost and make that much of an impact on the ratings. The show is only an hour long so unless there are major finals taking place during that hour (around 9pm or 10pm depending on the time zone) I don't see how ratings will drop substantially.

It's all about the companies advertising during the commercial breaks though. If they think their advert will be seen by less viewers they may want lower rates from ABC, which of course ABC wouldn't like.

They are on in Vancouver so there will likely be stuff on at primetime. Sports such as figure skating that are based in indoor arenas could still be on and would clash with Lost.
The IOC will definitely dictate stuff around the US. I mean the swimming finals were held in the morning in Beijing purely for American tv.

It'll really be a 3 week wait between episodes though. Which might kill me, lol. :D

You are both right, of course, it's not that big a deal. But I do think there have been too many breaks. When ABC announced the shorter season format, they said it would mean an uninterrupted run of episodes. Now, what happened with season 4 was unavoidable, but the two breaks last season were completely unnecessary.

Anyway, according to DarkUFO, the first promo of the season will be out on Thursday (probably Friday our time). It'll be our first look at the season.

Possible confirmation of a January 20th premiere date:

Filming for Season 6 began last August and it will end in April so with the Winter Olympics on it should save a break near the end... one things for certain ITS GONNA BE EPIC!!!!

ABC has announced that Lost will premiere on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 9PM.

Not sure what this means for episodes during winter olympics which I think starts a week later.

ABC ANNOUNCES THE PREMIERE OF THE SIXTH AND FINAL SEASON OF “LOST,” WITH A SPECIAL ALL-NIGHT EVENT ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 2

ABC announces the premiere of the sixth and final season of “Lost,” with a special all-night event on Tuesday, February 2. A recap special will kick
off the night from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET, followed by the much anticipated two-hour premiere from 9:00-11:00 p.m.

The series will then air in its regular time period – Tuesday nights from 9:00-10:00 p.m., ET – beginning the following week, on February 9.

We have to wait till February. :(

I wonder is there a chance that it will be on any night other than Sunday?

It's up to RTE/Sky and what suits their schedule, I guess. Sky could probably bring it forward to at least Friday if they wanted to. I think in season 4 it was taking 3 days for an episode to be delivered. They may have gotten faster since then though.

It's a bit ridiculous that it take them so long - the episodes are sent digitally the following morning, but it take days just to put it onto a tape and give it to the broadcaster. In the meantime, downloaders are watching 720p versions of the episode an hour after it airs in the US.

There was also some talk during the summer about the series finale being aired "simultaneously", i.e. the night after it airs in the US, which would be a wise decision imo.

I am not sure quite what I do but the 16 odd hour gap between broadcast in the states and when I watch it I shall be avoiding the internet, tv anything which could remotely give it away. Not taking any chances for this!

I reckon Sky/RTE are going to have to broadcast it midweek this year. It was on Thursday in the US last year so Thursday to Sunday wasn't too bad of a gap (I reckon they didn't want to broadcast it on Saturdays)

My guess is they'll have it on Thursdays this year.

Can only see them trying to get it pushed to Thursday night slot. Thats a usual for meaty american programmes

Wednesdays - Would have the Football to contend with. unless it started at 10pm
Fridays would have to conted with the Late Late Show,
Sat TV is family TV, geamshows/quizshows/talent(less) shows/ sports round ups and movies.
as for Sundays - would be too long a wait so please let it be a Thursday.
