Hi, i went to meet my priest the other day and he told me that the church was €500 for the day of the wedding, along with money for the priest and a "small token" for the caretaker. Does anyone else think that this is quite a lot to pay?

500euro would be considered on the steep side if it's your own parish church. If it's not your parish church, then this is about right.

The point being that if it is your parish, you/your family donate regularly in the weekly contributions etc, so for your parish, expect to pay between 150-300.

Usual fee per priest (I know, fee!!) is €150 (and of course the meal afterwards! and in my case, accomodation too:eek:), about €50 for the sacristan for preparing the church, and another €20 per servers (if any) on the day.

Yes the church side is pricey, but to be fair, the ceremony is the pinnacle of the day, so a very small cost in the grand scheme of what you are paying out for the whole day.

    Best of luck:)

We had to "Donate" €200 for the church. Its not our parish church at all. Wedding is not too far away now.

€500 is far too steep. I would find another church if i were you. Ask them can you donate the €500 to a charity of your choice and show them the receipt. Just to test their idea of a "Donation".

Come on people, on the day of your wedding, you expect the church to be clean, heated, well maintained and not shabby etc.

I agree that (like everything once you mention "wedding" it's "cha-ching!" for suppliers) however it's not fair to expect to swan up on the most important day of your life and expect everything to be there for free!!
