Following on from another thread on the subject of big courses surviving, I'm going to throw in my weekly dose of gloom and doom. I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but realistically some clubs will close, so:

How many clubs will have closed by the end of 2010

    0
    1 to 2
    2 to 4
    5 to 7
    Over 7

I'll give this thread a bit of a bump!

I dont think as many courses will close as we think, maybe I'm being naive, surely banks will think if we close down this course what else will we do with the land.... build houses on it !!! Some courses being in the middle of nowhere have no prospect of operating as a different business.

Like many courses have done already, cut the greenkeeping staff who are already on minimum wage, cut the greens/fairways a couple of times a week in order to keep the course in decent nick for the members at the weekends and the odd green fee golfer. Unfortunately this is the tack (extreme cost cutting) money strapped clubs will be doing..

So i go for 1-2 clubs to close..

Don' see how someone is supossed to figure this out really, or cant see the point in the speculation,
might aswell be trying to figure out which bean in the can made someone fart

people probably don't know the true financial situation of any club bar their own if even that, never mind clubs down the road or at the other end of the country

    So hopefully none

This is an uneasy topic and we've deleted a few posts just to be sure that there is no rumouring in it. Going to leave it open so votes can be cast but please don't discuss or mention specific clubs unless the gates have been locked and it's now full of allotments.

Just how many courses/clubs have closed?

Harbour Point in Cork (May 2009) is closed.

Did Cobh keep their 9 hole course open?
