WWE has changed the name of it's February pay-per-view to the Elimination Chamber, according to the Upcoming Pay-Per-Views list on WWE.com. The original name was No Way Out. Go to ProWrestlingEvents.tk or ProWrestlingEvents.webs.com for info about upcoming wrestling shows worldwide.

When I saw the title thread this was instantly my first thought. Looks like they're trying to make every PPV a themed PPV. Ridiculous I think.

Utter stupidity. It most certainly takes away from the gimmick of the type match.

Plus, historically No Way Out has always been a great PPV.

Do WWE really think that we're all so stupid that they have to actually name a PPV after a match in order for us to remember what's gonna be happening at it.

I know they went PG and all that, but they really don't need to literally treat the fans as children.

I'm just waiting for Royal Rumble to be renamed "Thirty Man Over The Top Rope Challenge"

And it forces gimmicks into matches. Gimmick matches are much better when, after a few normal matches, both wrestlers still haven't settled their differences, a gimmick match is used. Having all PPV main events as gimmick matches ruins both the concept and the fued.

Probably, WWE have historically taken their fans for stupid fools with memories like gold fish...

Or maybe they do not expect their fans to be around for more than 2 years at a time? If they keep this crap up, they wont last longer than a month or two.

    i give up.

who thought that was a good idea?

    what is the point?

i really don't think their buy-rates for PPV will increase purely because they tell the audience plainly what the predominant match-type will be.

    i officially feel patronised.

the 9-12 year olds they're aiming at should too.

    Replacing Armaggedon

Bragging Rights (Terrible name) replaces Cyber Sunday (Pretty good name)
Breaking Point (Ok name) replaces Unforgiven (Great name)
Hell in a Cell (Terrible name for a full PPV) replaces No Mercy (Great Name)
Elimination Chamber (Terrible name for a full PPV) replaces No Way Out (fantastic name)

Please don't change any more. Especially not Backlash. Considering its after WM, Backlash is a brilliant name

    I agree.

If there are 3 gimmick matches on one card where they are all the same type of match lets say ladder matches, then the options available are limited in each match. We end up with a watered down version of a match and end up disapointed.

I think extreme rules and breaking point work as the match types can vary. If they are going to keep up the gimmick PPVs then please limit the match bearing the PPV name to the main event.

They sent me a survey a few weeks ago about names of their PPV's. The one they specifically asked me about was the Elimination Chamber one. They listed a few other suggestions for PPV names and I swear, they were awful. It reminded me of what Austin said when they sent him possible character names like Ice Dagger, Fang McFrost, Auto Von Ruthless.

I think one suggestion was "Heavy Metal" They had a few others which were bad too. Elimination Chamber was far and away the best of them all.

Re: this PPV name change...did any of you get the email survey from the WWE asking you which of 4 names was your favourite...can't remember them all, but none were better than No Way Out. Yet the majority of those surveyed must have chosen this over No Way Out and the other 2!

Edit: Grandmaster beat me to it!

    Christ.

This is another in their big series of horrible errors that same great in the short term, but long-term are really detrimental. There's some delusional people in that company.

Chamber of Conflict? hahaha oh God that is awful

I remember when they were trying to come up with a name for Breaking Point, one of the suggestions was 'WWE Submit and Quit' :D

who in the blue hell comes up with these names

To see if a name is going to be good, you have to imagine 2 things:

JR shouting at the start of the PPV "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WE WELCOME YOU TO ........."
Undertaker making a promo with the line "And this Sunday.... at ............"

Another problem with PPVs being named after match types are the matches which won't be using that gimmick. They have to announce having a match using the match name, but not that type of match. And it means there likely won't be a different gimmick match at the same event, such as a midcard match being a cage match, at the TLC event

What constitutes a main event? The last few gimmick PPVs, the main events have been the WWE and WHC title matches, and DX vs Legacy. Why is DX vs Legacy a main event match but the ECW title isn't? There wasn't even an ECW title match at HIAC. Will DX always be a main event match?

I thought the rule for their kayfabe was 3 months (as in anything that happened more than 3 months ago never happened)? So it's fair to assume they're now using that for the rule with these PPV titles.

Well it looks like every PPV except the big 4 will be getting a name change as WWE has sent out another survey asking fans what name they would like to see a PPV changed to. The new survery asks voters to choose one of the following PPV names: Judgment Day, Riot Control, Multimania and WWE War Games.

WWE War Games gets my vote if they are going to be using the old WCW rules of the event but Multimania god who got paid to think of this.

Im guessing that Backlash and The Bash will also get a name change so in 2010 all 10 PPVs (after the big four) will have a gimmick attatched in some manner or form. I just hope that they don't add another PPV next year 14 is way to much.

Multimania Is Just Pathetic,All these new names are,the old ones sounded way better
when will WWE realise that gimmick matches dont sell PPVs
