Looking into studying to be a Medical Secretary, is anyone out there in this profession or what was it like studying for this role? I'd like a change (got lots experience as Administrator/Secretary/PA) but I'm thinking that the Medical sector will be a lot more interesting. Any advice will be much appreciated.

hey , my mum was a medical secretary for the best part of 12 years, she loved it but has had to give it up because of ill health. the main things she said is that you need alot of patience, be good with people and be prepared to spend your first year or so picking up every cough and cold going, hope that helps

Sorry to hear your mum had to give up something she loves doing, I hope she's better.
My patience is fine, and I've worked with people before and enjoyed it, but nowhere near an environment where people are ill. I never did Biology or Chemistry in school, don't know what subject I did to learn about the body although I'm a lot more interested in the subject now. There's a huge amount of medical terminology to learn which scares me! I'm looking for a change of scenery in the Administration field and the Medical sector is the only one that interests me. I didn't expect to get any feedback so I appreciate your comments, thanks a mill.
