Freeview TV for a Noob

Hi. I just bought a new TV and I'm hoping to watch something on it. My Apartment (In Dublin) is set up for NTL, but I've heard and experienced nothing but bad things about them (Not for debate thanks :)). I'm looking at a cheaper option of just picking up a few basic channels, but I don't know where to start. I see on other boards here that people are picking up great quality streams of football games using things like Digitalk and Cyrus which I'd definitely like to pursue, but at the moment I just want to see the news. Í've a bit of time off now and I'm headed towards Jervis St. What am I looking to buy?

I don't have a satellite dish and they are not allowed in my building, so I'd need something that wouldn't stick to the side of my house, but maybe rest beside the TV. I tiny satellite dish is what I have in my head, but I don't know if that is possible in real life. I want RTE and BBC, but i don't want rabbit ears sticking out of the back of my new TV either, if that is even possible. What can you suggest?

    Cheers

There are flat panel UHF aerials that are inbotrusive in your room.

I got a UHF aerial and it's fine. Sitting on the ground. Up to 45db or that kind of thing. Picks up RTE 1 and 2, TG 4, an atrocious TV3 and 4 radio channels. Is this as good as it gets?
