New to this board and need help filling out tax return please!

I am filling out a tax return for property that I have been renting out since September 2008. Prior to that I was living in the house and left most of the furniture/fittings behind in it. When I am claiming for capital allowances for the year 2008 am I only allowed to claim for items purchased since September or can I claim for items in the house that were purchased prior to that in 2008 and in previous years? Does anyone know??
