Are any companies laying new cable? What are the current laws surrounding the laying of new cable and in the last 10 years has any cable network extended their network with new cable rather than with taking over new companies?

UPC are recabling their entire cable network. I think some MMDS areas (largish towns) are also being cabled but I don't know where.

Relaying of existing cable doesn't count. But interesting to see they are pushing cable in some MMDS areas.

There is only one Cable provider, UPC.

Its there private network, they lay cable were they see fit, profitable area ect.

But yes they are recabling most of there network and extending it in some places, They are building a Hyper Fiber-Coaxial network.

There are a couple of cable networks around the country, not just UPC - although UPC are by far the largest. UPC have been throwing a shedload of money in to their network over the past few years and it's expanded in terms of both newly available services to existing customers and deploying their network to new areas.

While I will agree it is good to see a company upgrade their services to allow for new service I don't consider it expansion except in terms of ARPUs, which is generally what UPC is interested in.

Deploying the network to new areas is what I am interested in.

UPC are trying to get new over head network(near existing network) but its quite a difficult task as it only take one person to say no. To dig in new network were none has been before would never happen due to the cost.

Funny how one of the main factors for the merger of the Dublin Cable companies into Cablelink stated that Underground cable network would be one of the reasons for such a large company in the area.
