Introduction to Accounting books?

Could someone please recommend for me the best introduction to accounting type book?

I'm not looking for something too rigorous or technical, I'm trying to teach myself about investment and I'd like some assistance with digesting financial reports etc. I'm sure something along the lines of a first year undergrad or even a leaving cert book would be fine.

I would search but the search function is kaput at the moment.

    Thanks.

Here are some books to look out for:

Peter Atrill & Eddie McLaney Accounting and Finance for Non-Specialists (6th edition, Prentice Hall, 2008).

Aidan Berry & Robin Jarvis Accounting in a Business Context (4th revised edition, Thomson Learning, 2005).

Robert Perks Financial Accounting: Understanding and Practice (2nd edition, McGraw Hill, 2007).

These are all aimed at students taking non-specialist introductory accounting courses, so they cover the basics but don't get over-technical. They are all rather expensive, and a less pricey book that concentrates on understanding financial statements is:

Ciaran Walsh Key Management Ratios (4th edition, FT-Prentice Hall, 2008).

Thanks for that. Just ordered Accounting and Finance for Non-Specialists.
