iPod no music folder

Posted this in another forum but didn't realise theirs a specific Apple thread.

Right probably a bit of a strange problem here but I have an iPod Video (80GB) all's been going well and that but I turned on my iPod today and I went to put on a song and their is no music folder on the iPod, like when I turn on the iPod I see the folders "Photos, Videos, Playlists, Extras, Settings, Shuffle Songs, Sleep" but it used to have music on the top of that and its gone, I thought maybe it was that the songs had gone but they are still there in my playlists. I can't see what the problem is I restarted it (turn hold on then off and press menu and centre button) turned it off and on and nothing.

Also tried connecting it to iTunes there and when I put it in my computer it says "Device not recognised" which has never happened before.

Just wondering if anyone knows what the problem or any ideas at all that could help would be appreciated, cheers hope its easy to understand
