First off: Raptors, stay well away from them, cheap and sh*te.
Blaster 0.2's cheap enough and I've never had any problems.
ASG 0.23's brilliant BB's never jammed on me or misfed.
ICS 0.25's once again brilliant BB's which haven't jammed or misfed, great accuracy and range.

How about Excel and Madbull and tracers rounds?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,174 ✭✭✭✭Captain Chaos

Like the name they are tracers, you're ment to mix them with standard bbs in a 1:10 ratio or what ever you want. Its not really practical to have a stream of tracer, like liring a laser if you have a high ROF settup.

My bbs of choice are Excell and Blaster .23s sometimes the Excells can be a little picky in certain guns.

So Excell make good tracers then.

Never use tracers myself but Excell are a good quality brand, any bb made by them is of good high quality.

Excel .23g or preferably .25g are what a few of the lads have been using lately. 0.28g on the sniper.
Blasters seem to be popular also, I use 'em if I've no Excels.

Whats the problem with being too popular?

Nothing, being popular is a good thing, especially with BB's.

I use G&G .2 and .25. Never jammed, never misfed, never misfired...€14 for a bag of 5000. I like 'em

    Sounds good and cheap

I use them and find them bloody brilliant, they had shedloads of them in Hobby Airsoft last time I checked!

If you are getting Excel Tracers, don't get the orange ones. Not half as bright as the green ones. Madbull ones are even brighter and stays lite longer than the Excel. Then again, depends on the type of tracer unit you have...

How about the JG full auto tracer unit?

Just bought the JG recently and used it for the first time last night at the Jebrovian Conflict at HRTA - with Vanaras tracer bb's. Feckin Deadly (bogger terminology meaning great) bit of kit.

    Totally recommended.;)

Excell are my favorite. I use the .2g but always nice having the .25g when going close for a little more punch :)

Witch are best for AEG accuracy at max range .20 or .25?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Leftyflip

.25's are incredible for range and accuracy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 997 ✭✭✭.22 Lover

    So are Blaster .25s ok?

Personally I find .23g bb's the best compromise but hard to get in a good quality bb. hard to get usually but I got a bottle (6000) of .23 excels from Eirsoft a short while back and I love em.

I find the .25's just a wee bit too heavy (really notice the range drop in my TM's).

Usually I go for G&G or Excels but ICS are nice too. Get the best you can afford especially if you use midcaps. (better feeding in fussy mags)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,440 ✭✭✭✭thermo

+1 on the .23g's,,,,,,,, the best "bang for your buck" IMO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,258 ✭✭✭Cheeky monkey

excel .23 to .25 and G&G .25 are some of the best going imo for AEGs if your thinking sniper rifle try madbull matchgrade been using them and they are epic. but if you wanna be a truely gucci bastard get your hands on some maruzen supergrand masters they're supposed to be the most accurate BB goin

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 504 ✭✭✭cypharius

For accuracy, just go with anything 2.5g and you can't go far wrong. But personaly, I'd go with these - http://www.hobbyairsoft.ie/products.php?cmd=detail&id=894025&cat=03&subcat=06

Its all down to preference really, like most things in airsoft everyone has different experiences. Here are mine

    Excel
brand are what I would use if I had the choice, they are easily available, good priced and never ever cause jam or feeding problems. Their accuracy and range are perfect and for me are jsut the best BB around.

    G&G
are a close second however are a little more pricey, are in annoying bags and well they arn't always easily available. But again they are top drawer with good range and accuracy no feeding issues.

    Blaster
BB's are pretty decent too. Very well priced and have never caused me any problems.

Goldfire. Nothing but trouble, caused constant jams, misfeeds and their accuracy and range were pretty muck. Factory floor sweep ups and recycled BB's if material I read is anything to go by.

    Gunfire.
Tried their bio bb's a few times and caused havoc with gun. Refused to work with the hop up and caused serious problems. This was their bio BB range. Their normal BB's are ok, but I wouldn't go looking for them specifically.

    Bioval.
Quality bio BB, my bio bb of choice, however very hard to get and can be pricey, but never cause any problems.

    Devil BB's.
Used these for one day, and seemed pretty much the same as excels except different colour and a higher price tag.

    Raptor BB's.
Used these one Sunday in red barn as a guy loaned me two midcaps worth, caused numerous jams in my gun and from my pistol they went everywhere. Too inconsistent for me.

Cybergun. Used these in mac and wasn't very impressed. They fed ok but they just didnt seem to want to go anywhere near my target. Can be pricey aswell and just not something I'd consider using.

Most Bb's will work in your standard clone and hicap mag. But when you start to upgrade your gun with tightbore barells, softer hops and midcaps, you need to be careful of what BB's you use.

I can usually tell a ****ty brand by the fact it wont feed through my gun or if they dont have proper spin on them. That means they are not of good enough quality to use with a tightbore and silicon hop, therefore, arn't worth the hassle.

    Weights

    .2g
I use these primarily for pistols and for indoor games or cqb games. These BB's travel the fastest over short distances, but can loose some trajectory and accuracy long distance. Usually the cheapest BB around.

    /23.g
I use these the most. Used in my assault rifles where I need that little bit more range and accuracy in mid-long range engagements. Still travels with pace over the distance, but has more power then a .2 to go that extra few feet.

    .25g
I use these in long range sites only. They are the slowest travelling BB, in that you can see them coming and dodge them over distance ( Dr pepper can verify that theory) but are the most accurate and have very nice range. I'd primarily choose .23g, but .25g are my weapon of choice in sniper rifles, my masada ( now tuned for long range accurate fire) or if I had a support gun for the day.

It should be ntoed that using heavier BB's does drop your fps slightly as you go heavier and heavier, but the trade off is whilst your BB travels slower, it will go that little bit further and usually be a little bit more accurate.

Perhaps a thread like this should be stickied? It's something most people wouldn't think to ask, so maybe having it as a resource could help a lot of people in the future...we have a recommended retailers, so why not one that deals with what to buy in those retailers:D:D

I bought a bag of Raptors .2 last saturday and have noticed the accuracy can be a bit skewed alright from about 40 feet.

Would I be right in saying that if I bought Excel I should be hitting my target dead centre each time (well almost each time)?

I think doc's post was most informative... really well done there...

However I must disagree on several points.

Excel bbs... i find them too small. Sure they dont jam, but dont provide maximum efficiency. In mac 11 gbbs they tend to roll out of the mags... wont stay in (5.95mm iirc)

And G&G bbs... ew, no thanks. Far too big, designed to compensate for standard aeg barrels by being larger, thus making them tightbores... in a tightbore they jam like Jimmy Hendrix.

My personal favourites are the gunfire precicision line... very very nice. Extreme consistency within 1m/s per shot, though thier .25s (my standard weight) are a bit less so.. but still amazing.

Atm i use bioval .25s... the most consistent .25 I've found.

For sniper rifles... Blaster bbs are excelent, or for that extra weight, begadi .43s... the orange ones.... Delicious.

G&G would be one of the most reliable for me personally in my tightbore setups.

Wiht gunfire causing an immense amount of problems.

My first trip to south east airsoft I had to use gunfire bio's and it literally ruined the day for me because my guns just would not work.

TM mp7 and VFC 416 had serious feeding issues, when i put excels in to test fire on their range, everything was hunky dory.

But it should be noted BB's are very much personal when it comes to brand and choice, with everyone having differing stories and the like.

The BB you use is pretty much a very important thing, its like the type of golf ball you use, the type of football boot you wear. You have to try a few out, and go with the one you feel your getting the maximum efficeny out of, for your setup and your guns, not anyone elses.

I think thats why there isnt a sticky on BB's, because there is just no definite anwser to what is the best, there is however definitive anwsers to which are the worse.

Odd that... I find them to jam so often in tightbores... and not just me... they are really not popular over in the UK, quite looked down on infact.
As for your problems with GFC bbs... wlel you did say you used the bios... i was refering to thier precision plastic line... give them a try and see for yourself... quite nice... Infact they used them on the IAA shooting stand all weekend at salute... they loved them.

As for sticky... yeah, sticky it... people can read views, and your review was fairly comprehensive doc, so i think its a good idea to pin this one up for people to look at, and take things away from to experiment themselves.

There may be a golf ball for everyone... but people need to know which ones are good to find one they like... or its a long expensive process.
