Not exactly cycling related but since I only ever really use the Beer, Wine & Spirits Forum and most recently this Cycling Forum I thought I'd mention it.

Cycling has some strong connections with raising awareness with Men's Health, Lance Armstrong being the "spokes" man (sorry, bad joke). Just wondering will anyone here be joining in this years Movember? Or more importantly, is every one aware of Movember?

TinyExplosions took part in it last year, I'm sure plenty of people would be willing to do it, would be funny seeing people on a saturday spin with boards jerseys and matching facial hair.

I think the one rule is only handlebar moustaches should be allowed on the cycling forum :)

Movember is an annual, month-long celebration of the moustache, highlighting men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer.

Mo Bros, supported by their Mo Sistas, start Movember (November 1st) clean shaven and then have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their moustache. During Movember, each Mo Bro effectively becomes a walking billboard for men’s health and, via their Mo, raises essential funds and awareness for Movember’s men’s health partner – Action Prostate Cancer, Irish Cancer Society. At the end of Movember, a series of Gala Partés are held to thank Mo Bros and Sistas for their support and fund raising efforts.

The idea for Movember came about in 2003 when a few mates were having a beer in a small bar in Melbourne, Australia. Inspired by the women’s health movement, it was recognized that men were lacking a way to engage and actively involve themselves in their own health. During a conversation about fashion and past trends, the idea came up to bring the moustache back for one month, and in doing so, have some fun, raise a small amount of money and hopefully encourage men to talk about their health with each other.

Its the month formally known as November!

Its a worldwide event to raise awareness of mens health focusing mainly on Prostate and Testicular Cancer... Its pretty easy, sign up to the website and get your photo blog, have a clean shave on the first on "Movember" and for the rest of the month you grow a moustache of whatever style. People donate directly to your page or you can collect the money yourself. All the money raised in Ireland goes to "Action Prostate Cancer". Last year was the first year in Ireland and we managed to raise just over 364,000 euro. Worldwide, since it started in 2003 it has raised over €42 million...

Its really is a super thing as it not only raises important funds it gets people talking about subjects that guys tend not to really talk about. See the link below for all the info!

I'm not very hairy. Is it OK with Lance if I just spend the month examining myself?

I did it last year, don't think I'll have time to do any fundraising this year, though I always like a good 'tache!

Pretty sure there's a boardsie Movember team. It was really successful last year with a couple of thousand euro raised. There was even a guy who dyed his Mo and hair pink, or was it purple, might have been purple. I reckon the doors wide open for someone here to dye their hair pink since cyclist here have such an affinity for the colour ;)

I took part in it last year, it's good craic. So long as you send an email out beforehand asking for donations, you won't get any strange looks. I didn't do too badly in the end, €600 or so from about 20 people.
