Distributing satellite and terrestrial signals

    Hi,
I've a couple of questions about distributing satellite and terrestrial signals around the house using power supplies, distribution amplifiers and magic eye's. If the post is in the wrong section please feel free to move it.

I'll explain my current setup and hopefully not confuse people too much. Originally my terrestrial aerial was setup with the aerial coax cable going into the i/p of a 4 way splitter, one of the o/p's of the splitter went to a Fringe Electronics Power Supply P1235 located in the bedroom. The o/p of the power supply went to the TV in the bedroom. The P1235 is a power supply that is used to power mast head amplifiers.

For best performance should the power supply have been located in the attic with the aerial coax cable connected to the i/p of the power supply, then the o/p of the power supply connected to the i/p of a 4 way splitter ? I've since found out that the P1235 should only be used for 1 TV not 3 TV’s. At the time of installation there was no socket in the attic so this may explain why it was setup this way. I have since put a socket in the attic and moved the power supply into the attic.

I have also run a separate coax cable coming from the RF o/p of an AZBOX STB into the attic. I've used a splitter to join the aerial coax and the AZBox RF o/p together and connected it to the i/p of the P1235 power supply. The o/p of the power supply goes into a 4 way splitter and then to 3 TV’s.

My setup in the attic is a bit messy
    Terrestrial coax + STB RF o/p -> Splitter -> P1235 Power Supply -> 4 way splitter -> 3tv's

One of my problems is I don't know if the power supply is suitable for an attic installation.
It has 1 i/p and 1 o/p and from what I've read should only be used for 1 TV not 3tv's. Has anyone ever used one of these power supplies and do you know if it is ok to have this type of power supply in the attic ?

After searching various posts and the web I've come across several products that may clean up my setup and may improve my terrestrial signal for 3 TV’s.

    Global F140 4 Way F Type Amplifier
This has 1 i/p and 4 o/p's and does not require mains power.
Can it replace my existing power supply for my mast head amplifier ?
Will it provide power to the mast head amplifier ?
would it be ok to use my splitter to join the aerial coax and the AZBox RF o/p together and connect it to the i/p of the F140 to distribute my STB signal to the other TV’s.
Has anyone used the Global F140 this way ?

Global 4 way Loftbox, Labgear 6 Way Loft Amplifier, Triax 6 way bi-directional amplifier, SLx4B 4 Way Signal Distribution Amplifier
Can these amplifiers replace my existing power supply for my mast head amplifier ?
All of these amplifiers have 2 i/p's, 1 for uhf and 1 for vhf signals. I have only one cable from my aerial in the attic that has the uhf and vhf signals combined.
What would be the best way to connect my aerial cable and RF out cable to these amplifiers ?

I want to control my STB from the other two rooms. For each room will I need a magic eye and a bypass kit to bypass the amplifiers ?

What would the best way for me to distribute my terrestrial and satellite signals to all TV’s and to control my STB from any TV in the house ?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

the masthead amplifier's power supply should be before any splits unless its a passive splitter with dc passthrough on one leg only,
you mention about using magic eyes, these are designed to be used with a sky box which you don't mention having, they can be used with any STB but will need a "TV link Plus" unit, Again the global t140 amp is for Sky distribution and is powered from the rf2 on a sky box or a seperate power supply (different from the aerial power supply). it will work with a TV link Plus but reccomend 2 seperate power supplys.
I would get a pro in to tidy up your install.

    but should be

    Aerial
    Masthead Amp
    MA Power supply
    STB
TV LINK PLUS or Omnilink Plus with power supply
Distribution Amp with dc pass through
    TV's with magic eyes

Try to have only one splitter (pref an active unit) in the system.

also you mention joining the Rf output from the stb to the aerial, but as the STB is fed from the aerial should this not have the aerial signal plus the rf of output if not does it have a seperate rf input. remember the starview boxes didn't pass on the input signal only the rf signal but there was a seperate rf input aswell.
