How to become a English Teacher (Secondary)

Hey,

Pardon my ignorance, but I'm sitting on a university degree in English and I want to become an English teacher at secondary level. I want to go the UK route but know very littl (nothing!) about it. I've heard that there is a 2 year course on offer that provides you with a £6,000 grant. Also, I heard that the 2nd year is placement. This sounds like just what I'm after. If anyone could point me in the right direction for info or links to help me i'd be very greatful!

They offer a 1 year full time PGCE course. You can also gain 60 credits towards a masters degree (basically your first year in a 2 year part-time course) if you complete certain courses at M level. There is a bursary for home/EU students. You'll want to have experience working with school age children, preferably at the secondary level. Volunteering at schools is a good thing.

I've just sent my application in to the GTTR for the PGCE in Secondary English in England. The earlier the better, especially if you want a choice. However, they do a clearing as well. Applications received after a certain will go straight into the clearing, and those who were unsuccessful with their four choices will be put into the clearing as well.
