08 Mondeo hatchback - boot / hatch not opening...

    Hi all,

I have a 08 Mondeo Hatchback and 2 days ago the boot would not open.
This happened when I had a good few boxes put into it and, part of the load was against the back window, so to close the boot/hatch I had to press down on it so the "load" in it pressed down also (as opposed to just "banging" the hatch shut)

If I put my ear down beside it I can hear a relay clicking but the boot will not open.

This is the 2nd time this has happened - the last time was a similar cause, but it started working again 1/2 day later - I thought at the time it was becase there there was a bit of plastic that had fallen in the lock mechanism, but now I realise it must be because the hatch couldn't close cleanly or crisply (if you know what I mean)

Anyhow - anybody got any ideas ??

you could of pushed the plastic casing on top of the latch that unlocks and locks the boot, put down the seats and get into the boot that way, have a look at the lock and make sure nothing is blocking it while someone else trys opening it, when open make sure the plastic surrounding is tight in place as it may have shifted.

OK - I'm pretty sure there is nothing that I can see blocking it (I already crawled in and had a look as you suggested)

I'll take another look and try shifting around the plastic casing inside the boot with my hands while someone keeps trying the opening mechanism....

I have also already rattled it loads up and down and left to right from the outside to no avail....

You may need to take the plastic off and open it from the inside, dont pull it back and forth as the barrell may be loose or damaged as it is. let me know how u get on

OK - so that plastic is removable from the inside with the boot closed ?

08 Mondeo? Ring a dealer - it's covered under warrantly. They might even do it at short notice if you say you need the car for work or something
