Brutal Truth, Carcass, Napalm Death, Nile and the ilk would be my favourite bands at the moment any other suggestions out there for some more obscure bands that offer something? The heavier the better.

Your not going to get a great pile heavier than the likes of:
    Necrophagist
    Sarpanitum
    Cannibal Corpse
    Suffocation

Have a couple of Suffocation albums, they are a little boring in my eyes! blasphemy I know but the odd mid tempo breakdown or something different would be welcome.
    Carcass are masters of this.

    Have you heard Neuraxis?

And some classic Cryptopsy wouldn't be a bad bet:

Avoid the later Cryptopsy albums though. None So Vile is probably their best.

Decapitated's first album Winds of Creation is excellent:

It's well worth giving a listen to Vader:

If you can get over the production, Myrkskog's album Death Machine is absolutely brilliant:

go for some deicide! ( i may be biased). Any album other than "in torment in hell"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,969 ✭✭✭buck65

Thanks Karl some good suggestions there, MaxPower - have Deicide's eponymous album good stuff but I try to avoid the whole Satanic side of things these days, must be getting old!

I agree with Karl , Listen to all the early work Of Cryptopsy unreal also Decapitated excellent Sh1t. Also check out Bekighted, Behemoth, I see you want to stay away from the Satanic thing but seriously Try Belphegor's lastest album ' Bondage Goat Zombie' if you want real heavy !!!!

Are grindcore recommendations kosher? Half of the bands mentioned are pretty plainly grindcore.

I'll add Braindrill, Immolation, Impaled and Origin if they haven't been mentioned.

Yeah he mentioned Napalm Death in the first post.

It still doesn't make it death metal. Even though ND were DM for an album at least.

Not to be totally elitist and whatnot, but none of what you listed was death metal, there was deathcore, but a majority was just metalcore/heavy metal.

Miseration are the dog's. Their newer album is just a baleful arrangement of ire.

Odious Mortem are delightfully crushing, too:

The new Immolation album is pretty great....well worth a listen, not necessarily brutal as such but top of the tree of Death Metal bands if you ask me.

They'd be my cuppa if it weren't for the vocals. Their lyrics are meant to be really conceptual and esoteric though, if I'm not mistaken.

a couple of bands I havent seen on the list...

    Malevolent Creation,

their second album Retribution is pretty fookin good.

    Entombed,

theirfirst album ......left hand path......ranks as must for all death metallers.

I wouldnt be a big big fan of Deicide but Legion is a monster album.

another good band that doesnt get noticed is Dismember, id also recommend their first album Like an Ever flowing Stream I remember watching a single/video they released for the song Soon to be dead on headbangers ball years ago pretty good video and the song itself doesnt let up, not stop pure death metal start to finish

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,925 ✭✭✭Otis Driftwood

Came across these 2 monsters while trawling youtube today.

    Braindrill

    Origin

    Kick ass.

I love that album but I wish the vocals weren't so low in the mix.

I like Brain Drill, they show up every so often when I listen to some death metal stations on my last.fm, they are pretty damn solid IMO
