    Hi,

Have booked a flight with Ryanair to Bergamo. I understand it's about an hour or so to Milan.

Has anyone stayed in Bergamo itself or does it make more sense to stay in Milan?

What's the least hassel getting from Berg to Milan? Will be travelling with 3 kids.

    Thanks

Hi Bergamo is a lovely place....but not for staying with the kiddies...its acient and has alot of ruins...its about 45 mins from milan central station.here you can get buses/trains and tram to your destination. the bus form the airport is approx 13€ return.

Milan is a lovely city with lots to see and do, alot more than bergamo..

What about the lakes ? Lake Garda has an disneyland type place called "Garda Land" which my nieces/nephews loved!

Milan is nice but it's a big city and not too exciting or child friendly (Then again my sister lives on lake como so I've been to milan about 20 times and maybe I'm just bored with it)

    Thanks.

Santa, how far is Lake Garda from Milan? Is a day trip an option?

Garda is a far bit from Milan (prob about 2 hours by train).
I was suggesting it as an alternative to Milan. See the map below, Garda is the same distance from Bergamo as Milan is, just to the east instead of south west.

I flew into Bergamo about two years ago but headed straight for Milan.

From friends who have been there, they have said Bergamo itself is lovely, full of history and old sites but not really for kids. Maybe you could stay there a day or two??

Milan is only about an hour away and I got the Terravision bus which takes you to the Central Station.

I was there for a week and absolutely loved it, certainly will go back there again. There is a castle (can't remember the name of it, might be Sforza or something like that but its in the middle of the city so can't miss it) which I would highly recommend, depending on the kids ages they should love it as a lot to do - you could literally spend the day there and if it is a fine day you can chill out on the massive lawns.

If you are into football, take a trip to the San Siro, its an awesome structure and the museum is very interesting and the staff there are dead sound. When I went to do the tour, the museum part was closed but they told me to go back the following day and they would let me in for free because of the inconvenience and they duly did.

We headed out to Lake Como by train (1st class tickets are very cheap) - the kids might like going on the Ferry - you can hop off at various towns around the lake.

Hope this helps, its been a while since I was there but I did love it. Oh, and check out the ice-cream :D
