    Just a quick question:

    I am driving a Renault laguna 04 1.6
I drive an hour each day (30 to and back from work) (country roads, almost no traffic)

spend about 50 euro every 10 days if im lucky, would you guys consider this normal?

Is a bit of a shock after i traded in my polo 1.0 for this one :)

I don't know Lagunas but it sounds a bit heavy to me. What Distance is it you drive? What is your driving style?

Just as an example, I drive a 1.8 BMW about 40 minutes each way to work. Mix of Dual Carrageway (100kmp/h) and slow city traffic. I get about 36mpg. This is costing me about €30 per week . Total distance is about 250km.

    errrmmm

distance travelled (preferbly in km's), liters of fuel used ?

    50 euros per 30 mins *2 * 10 days just doesn't equate to anything meaningful :D

In fairness a 1.6 litre petrol engine is bound to be under a bit of strain in a car the size and weight of a Laguna. Small engines in cars of this class are a false economy but we can blame our old motor tax system for that.

Ok, your info isn't great to work with but assuming ten days Mon-Fri 60 miles * 5 = 300 miles. Then skip two days for the weekend and another Mon-Wed = 180 miles. Thats 480 miles. There would obviously be weekend use so say 50 miles and thats 530 miles. That works out like a lot for €50 petrol. If it's km, I would say it's not too bad either. I drive a 1.6 in a slightly lighter car and I get about 620km for my €60 fill

    Exactly.

With a bit of almost totally uneducated guestimation however:-

ASSUMING average speed of 60km/h, total distance travelled over 10 days is 600kms, or c.373 miles.

€50 of fuel buys c.9.4 gallons (@ €1.169 per litre).

That's be 39.68mpg, which isn't bad at all.

How much is that in shilling for the hogshead? :D

    Easiest way to find out.
    1. Fill car up fully.
    2. Reset trip meter to zero.
    3. Drive for 3-4 days as normal.
    4. Fill car up fully again.
    5. Make note of how many litres was used and how long distance you travelled.
    6. Use a MPG calculator to find your MPG.
    7. Check with manual or websites what expected MPG for your model is.

You would average about 40 mph in a country area when taking slowing down, parking etc. So you drive 1 hour per day, 10 days (dont know if you mean 10 working days or what you do at the weekend), thats 10 hours driving or roughly 400 miles for €50 which sounds too good to be true for a 1.6 laguna, its about 43 mpg. Based on that, I would say there is nothing wrong with your car. How much was the polo using?

I think the main problem here is that the OP is inadvertently comparing the mpg from the Laguna against what he/she got from the Polo.

    Perfect :)

€50 every 10 days is very reasonable, for that distance, tbh...........

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
