Beep, Beep, Beep

Has anyone noticed how every machine beeps at you these days.

When my new washing machine is finished it beeps until it is switched off, the dishwasher does the same. My new car beeps if I drive off without a seat belt on, or when I go over 120km. At the dart station everything seems to beep.

    Beep, beep, beep.

I thought, why is this. Well having done some research I now know the answer. It is all part of "behaviour modification". Such methods will bring in world peace within 30 years.

    Beep, beep.

So you think the machines are talking to you?

I think you should stay away from Clock Towers.

Sounds like you've got some gosh-darned irritating kitchen do-hickeys on your hands there Preston ol' buddy.

Why don't you go out and get a lil ol' wifey for yourself to do all that washing and a-scrubbing. Then you won't have to be all a-furrowing your brow trying to understand things and you can relax and whittle to your heart's content.

Yup same in my apt. The washing machine, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, toaster all beep. Its bloody annoying but handy at the same time if you havent shut the fridge correctly.

What does it do when a thread discussing your favourite superhero is created?

As someone who has campaigned for right for machines and computers I find your post insensitive and offensive. Machines should have the right to free speech just like any other creature, you work them non stop everyday and then complain when they cry out in pain or let you know when their slave task is completed. Shame on you, shame!

I was driving on Saturday morning and a buddy of mine was sitting in the car. He wouldnt put on the seat belt to stop the beeping and started quoting behaviour modification. A sudden step on the brakes soon sorted him out though :D

I wish my car beeped more. Did you know that if your lights are on and you get out the passenger side door it doesn't beep to tell you your lights are left on??
When i returned to my car last night at 6pm, my battery was dead.. and it was raining! Thank you UCD staff, and boy in white van! :)
    Sometimes the beeping is good!

19 posts in and no one has even expressed any disgust at the intent of these people. Do you not care that these people are trying in their own words "to modify behaviour".

We stuck my midget friend Pedro in our freezer one night to find out the answer to that.

Answer is: We don't know. Pedro won't tell - he hates us now because we forgot about him and he lost two toes to frost bite.

The one that really bugs me is Ulster Bank ATMs. I'll just beep loudly to tell everyone in the vicinity that this person has just withdrawn a wad of cash.

Down with beeps. Dings are the future.

But surely anyone at a cash machine is withdrawing cash?

Does the beep get louder the more you've withdrawn?
