B.T.E.A. Question needing answer!

    Hi all,

I recently applied for the BTEA second level option and recieved a letter literally 1 day later saying i have been unsuccessful in my application for the third level option, anyway, this was cleared up and i have now been awarded the second level allowance as of 17 Sept '09. I am currently still being paid my Jobseekers Allowance on a means tested reduced rate of 130. The BTEA is not means tested.

My question is: Since iam still on JA (€130pw) as of today, and my BTEA (€204pw) has been awarded since the 17th sept, when the allowance is changed from JA to BTEA will i be due a backdated payment of the sum of all those €74 that i have not been recieving since acceptance???

I hope somebody has an answer to this question, the lack of money for materials etc for college is a nightmare and this last minute realisation seems like it may be the answer!

    Thanks in advance guys.

    Hi HatField

you should also check into getting the Cost of Education Allowance (€500) which is part of the BTEA scheme. More information here (section 1.15): http://www.welfare.ie/EN/OperationalGuidelines/Pages/bte_all.aspx#1.7

yea the money will be backdated from the start-date of the BTE payment , you'll get it all at once which is pretty handy also you get 500 euro for school stuff i was in the same situation.

i was getting 130 then i went up to the full amount and because my clam changed from job seeker to BTE that meant my partner,, were not married cohabiting also received an increase to the the full amount , if your getting rent allowance your increase will affect this depending on area,,, it will go in one hand and out the other
