Starting to hear a squeaking noise only when i press in the accelerator in the morning, but after 5-8 mins of driving its gone. sounds like its emitting from a belt. I'm wondering is it that the timing belt about to go or a belt needs to be tightened or lubricated. Its a ford mondeo,

    Cheers

    Any info much appreicated

Sounds like a worn auxillary belt (aka fan belt) driving the alternator, power-steering or air-con. Would be fairly easy to replace.

Check of the alternator or power steering belts condition,
    if there bad replace.
If good small bit of adjustment needed. Then you'll be squeak free!

or a mouse starting to hibernate behind it ;-)

POwer steering belt was a solution for me in the past...

Douse the belt in baby powder. If the belt is slipping it should stop it (and the squeal) temporarily. Then you'll be sure that it's the belt that's at fault.

the mondeo will have one ribbed belt for the pas and alternator, the tensioner is automatic and does not need adjustment.

have a look at the belt, if its all cracked and perished looking, replace it. check the tension of the belt, give it a tug, it should be tight to pull and the tensioner should take up tension again once you leave go.

if the belt and tensioner seem ok, try Crosstowns trick with the talc, if the noise remains its probably a tensioner or idler for the cam belt on the way out, if it goes you're back to the ribbed belt, sometimes the look ok and still squeek:confused:

Probably the belt but could be static from the alternator being picked up by the radio.

Turn the radio off before starting engine to see if it persists.
