Does anyone know if there is a way to access sky news interactive on the humax freesat set up. I know you first have to go onto STB mode to get sky news itself but then no joy with the red button as you would on a normal sky box.
I used to find it particularly handy for an immediate good weather forecast.
    Thanks.

It's Sky's fault they don't want to pay to join Freesat.

I read on Ofcom article recently were Sky seemingly wanted to offer their premium channels but I think it was to Freeview not Freesat. Anyway they said freeview or ofcom were screwing them so they pulled out.

redout the whole idea behind freeview and freesat is to provide digital tv to the public for free (free meaning no cost). So when you say SKY felt they were being screwed is that because they were not gona get paid? My understanding is ITV and BBC teamed up and set up freeview/freesat so the public will not have to pay SKY.

Well of course they were going to charge! They were hardly going to offer their premium channels for free but they were giving people on freeview an opportunity to view them without the need for a dish seemingly.

FREEview FREEsat have the word free in them, the reason been they are to be free. no pay tv just the cost of a STB and the rest comes from the British tv licence payers.

Not forgetting the £30k per year each channel pays Freesat to be included in their EPG.

Sorry evilivor of course the tv companies should have to pay something to be on the freeview system, and SKY should also pay to be on the freeview network but we are not supposed to pay.The whole idea behind the FREEVIEW/SAT setup is to provide digital tv to the public at no cost to the public. redout must be confusing different systems I cant find any mention of top-up tv on freeview site,Its main banner on the page says no subscription, and redout in my book that means FREE. http://www.freeview.co.uk/freeview/Services/Value

Topup tv is optional. Nobody forces you to get it. It is simply an option to view premium content. Here it is http://www.topuptv.com/how+it+works/

redout i was only trying to point out what you were saying was probably wrong and perhaps you were mistaken. Now i know you are talking about something completely different. When you make statements about freeview you should get your info from the official freeview site and before you make any more comments on freeview/freesat read about it,check out why it was set up and what its goal is and then decide if top-up has a place there.Your link for top-up if you read it,or maybe you just dont understand states [Our digital boxes all come with Freeview+] note is says Our digital boxes that means top-up tv digital boxes these are not the official freeview boxes.FREEVIEW means free to view tv and pay tv weather it be top-up or SKY or even setanta has no place what so ever on the platform. This is my last comment on the issue as when I first posted I thought it was to somebody who knew what they were talking about,I had no idea they would drag it out.redout.

I dont even understand your rant. I mentioned that Sky were looking into making their premium channels available on freeview to which you said sky were not getting payed which is in fact not correct. Then I pointed out to you that of course sky would be looking for renumeration for their services to which you again started barking on about freeview = free tv and I never said it wasnt. I pointed out to you that premium content channels are available as optional extras. In fact if you had of bothered your arse looking you would in fact have seen that the topup tv box is advertised on the official freeview website. Perhaps you are the one who should study the website more clearly. Also just to educate you Sky are one fifth owners of freeview.

This whole Freeview / Top Up TV does get confusing. Whilst to the casual viewer they might seem like the same thing, they are not.

Top Up TV is not an addition to Freeview. It has nothing to do with Freeview. They are both seperate companies. Both services are provided over the DTT network in the UK and that is where the confusion sets in.

All DTT boxes sold in the UK can receive Freeview, but not all can receive Top Up TV. To receive Top Up TV, you need a cam / card slot.

It has now become commonplace to think of Top Up TV and Freeview as one and the same, which we obviously know is wrong.

Interesting they way this thread has moved way off the original topic:rolleyes:
The SKY News interactive system is proprietary; Freesat uses MHEG for interactive services and the BBC has re-written the red button services to the MHEG standard for text and for the sports multi-screen (which is a great service!). They haven't given a date for when the BBC News multi-screen will be available on Freesat, though, which is a pity.

BBC News Multi Screen for freesat is supposed to be in the pipeline. They said that the short time between approval and launch of freesat led the development team to focus on having some some features ready by launch and that they had to postpone others (like BBC news multiscreen).

However, at this stage you would think that they might have this sorted. So I am wondering if it has fallen off the agenda.
