I am going to purchase a bike under the bike to work scheme. I had an old trek 1000 63" size. The old dear served me well. But I have had terrible trouble with my back. I would think it was some small part due to incorrect sizing. How important is it and is their anywhere in cork that does it.

Any recommendations on a new bike would be great. Cheers

Sizing is very important, more so on a road bike than any other type of bike, maybe excepting TT bikes... 63cm (not inches, that would be some bike) would be a very big bike- to give you an idea I am 6ft and rode a 58cm Trek. 63cm (are you sure on that size, Treks generally came in even numbers and 62 was the largest) would be for someone at least 6'6" tall.

yea its a 63 alright. I am 6` 3" myself my brother is the same height and i think is around 60 (not 100%).

I am just under 6' 2", with relatively short legs, and ride a 58cm, which I find perfectly comfortable (and I have suffered major back problems for 20 years, but only get the odd ache on the bike, normally when I have a backpack on).

I would think that sounds too big for you all right, Trek's own rule of thumb for 6'3" is 58/60/62 so 60 would be the starting point. Treks are no longer made in a size 63 BTW.
