What do you guys think of American Accents? Americans in General?

    Hi,

I was on vacation in Dublin in June. I'm from the US (Boston) so I have a few friends who live over there (I know a few Irish people who come & go from Boston for work and stuff). Anyway, I was wondering - how do Irish guys generally feel about American guys? Personally, I find a lot of Irish guys really attractive, and not just for looks but because they have more of a fun personality and sense of humor than American guys. Plus, I think the accent adds to the whole thing, but I'm not sure if it works in reverse. What do Americans sound like to you? We're stereotypically known for being rude and annoying...so... I'm really curious. I've still never asked anyone.

Yay...finally someone replied! I am glad it's good news too. :) I was getting worried with the 100+ views and no replies. (If the American accent is a turn off, you can tell me!) Seriously... I won't be offended. I just really found myself into Irish guys & the accent...so...if it's not mutual, it's ok.

I think some americans have nice accents, some dont. Its hard to generalise about 300 million odd people.

Well, I like my American boyfriend's accent, if that's any help.

Generally, I do like the accent and the 'easy-goingness' very much of Americans.

I think it works well in porn (the american accent)... ye have perfected the art of talking dirty (is this allowed??); in fact i can't think of any other accent where that works (save John Cleese in 'A Fish Called Wanda' :0))

My accents all over the place. Grew up in Ireland but spent alot of my summers in Dorchester/Boston and picked up some what of an accent, which my brother hates, then moved to liverpool for four years...
Lets just say he’s loosing his hair slowly, i’m not too sure if it’s down to my accents which get worse when i’m drinking, they laugh when my local accent comes through, but i believe it changes on how relaxed i feel at the time.
I have no problems with accents, i think it all comes down to what your actually saying. It’s about engaging with the person, keeping eye contact and not going overboard on the first outing. If it’s interesting people will make the effort no matter what the accent is.

So yeah i like the american accent

It depends a lot for me. I find Americans from the north east (boston, ny etc) to be very manly and sexy. Some southerners too. I'm not so keen on the painfully positive get up and go-ness of americans from the west coast. Pretty big generalisation there I'm aware, but it seems to be what I've found from yanks I've met so far.

I generally love foreign accents-probably because of the novelty of them. This novelty factor is diminished somewhat when it comes to American accents because we're so immersed in America's TV shows, movies and culture. Plus, annoying middle class Irish kids are taking to using American accents ie. Like oooh myy gggggod!!! etc.
When I meet authentic American people however, I generally have a very favorable view of them. They seem very pleasant and generous.

I find gay women in the US are less ghettoised and so have less of an attitude.

I like the boston accent and the nyc accent. Not so keen on west coast.

Accent is fine...apart from the recent trend to make everything said sound like a question by raising the voice at the end of the sentence.
Lived in US for 10 years-have to say yet to come across a fairer people who will give someone a break based on their actions-fundamentally good people who mean well, but the problem is usually many don't have all the facts, so the decision is warped, if you know what I mean. Anyhow, hope you had a good trip and come back for more!
