7404 & 8404 users - Upgrade that firmware ;) For some reason the TV's Update-over-internet feature detected Firmware xx.xx.38.22 (the one I had installed) as the latest version, but on the website there had be a 38.23 and most recently (last Tuesday) a 58.005.

The Changelog is rather poor, making no mention of Scenea, but it's there as an option when you click Home :)

So grab yourselves a memory stick and get updating :D

Yea I loaded up the new firmware last night on my 8404 and Scenea is there. Not really the most ground breaking innovation, but it works :)

Indeed, not the most groundbreaking but it's nice and it works - great to know we're not being left in the shadow of the 9664 :D

Of course I can - bookmark this page and check it once a month and you should be grand

    http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?scy=GB&slg=ENG&sct=LCD_EXTRA_LARGE_GT40_SU&cat=FLAT_TV_CA&session=20091006192724_92.61.198.149&grp=TV_GR&ctn=42PFL8404H/12&mid=Link_Software&hlt=Link_Software

You can see the link to "42pfl8404h_12_fus_eng.zip" there, accept the terms and download the file.

Afterwards you'll have to extract the autorun.upg file from the zip file to a USB drive. Then pop the drive into the TV via the USB Slot and power on the TV (if it's already on then it'll automatically start the firmware update).

Wait for the TV to restart itself, it'll update the firmware and when it's done it will instruct you to remove the drive and power off the TV and power it back on again. After you do that, you're done so delete the autorun.upg file from the memory stick.

To check your current firmware, press Picture on the remote and go down to Software Update and go in to Current Software. It should match the number of the firmware you downloaded - The current one is "Q5481-0.26.58.5"

Forgive my ignorance but what is Scenea?

I don't have an Ethernet cable running to my 8404 but I did an upgrade a few weeks ago from a USB stick and it installed no problem. However the latest upgrade won't install, I put the autorun.upg file dated Sept 29th on the stick but the TV won't recognise it. I sent a query to Philips stating that I had already applied an earlier upgrade i.e. I knew how to do it but this was their reply........

I can recommend that there is no specific reason to install the latest firmware for your television as it does not include new features. The firmware can upgrade fix small problems that may have occurred. If you have not experienced any problems I would recommend that you leave everything in working order.

Has anyone on this forum installed this firmware off a USB stick and can someone please tell us 8404 users what scenea is?

As mentioned in my original post - upgrading over Ethernet cable/Internet didn't work for me. The TV reported I had the latest firmware installed (which was 38.22). However, the website reported the latest firmware was 58.5 so I decided to install by USB stick - it worked much the same as the last USB upgrade and went off without a problem.

    As for Scenea:
Scenea is a new feature, which allows you to use your TV as a big photoframe.

By selecting Scenea you will see a butterfly, this is the standard Scenea
picture. You can load your personal picture by watching it in the content
browser, pressing the options key, navigating down to "Set as Scenea ".
Then your personal picture will get stored as the "Scenea picture", so
from then onwards when choosing Scenea in the Home menu you will see your
personal picture. In Scenea, any key press returns you to "Watch TV”. The
maximum displaying time in Scenea is 240 minutes. A few minutes before the
set switches of a message is displayed to warn the customer.
